Ty Cobb Debut
 

On this day (August 30) 1905 Ty Cobb made his big league debut with the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers exercised their option with Augusta, and purchased Cobb for $700. He appeared in 41 games that season, compiling a modest .240 batting average.

Really nice looking T205 there...

Imagine getting A Cobb for $700, much less THE Cobb.

My favorite Cobb item. A 1910 original glass negative.

A couple of Cobb items to add to the mix. I love the notebook cover, it's like the "Bat Off Shoulder" T206 and then some. The photo is buried somewhere in the hoard so cannot check the back to see if there is any info as to date etc. Looks to be late in his career. Not your usual intense Cobb image.

David, despite Cobb's well-known racism, it was nice to see a black kid among those gathered around him.

And so a great career began!
