I saw that one on eBay and tried to research it some time ago. Could not figure out who it is. The method, metal litho, is the same used for various prewar pin sets. I'm guessing from the shape that it was part of a framed piece originally. I have seen some metal lithos (not sports) made that way.

For some reason the name Frankie Neil popped into my head, because of the way his hair is parted.
Probably just be a shot in the dark though. This guys hair looks a lot more "blown out". https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/04...g?v=1599598185 https://sep.yimg.com/ay/yhst-4169364...kie-neil-3.gif |
It also looks like Harry Lewis...but it ain't.

I agree that it was once in a wood frame. 1910 +/- 5yes. Either a family member loved their amateur boxer a lot, or he was a known fighter. The hairdo was so popular that it looks like a dozen guys that are all not a match.

John L. Sullivan or Jack Johnson maybe?

Looks like a lid to some type of container.

At first I thought a young Chico Marx, but then the hair made me think maybe Groucho.
