August pick ups
Wow. 16d into the month for someone to start a pickup thread. That has to be a record.
My 3 new pick ups. 1)1952 album of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Knute Rockne. Autographed by Christy Walsh 2) Snapshot of Lou Gehrig signing autograph in Spring Training. 3) 1920s record of Babe Ruth's Home Run Story. I think it's a 78. It is available for sale or possbly trade. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e2dda78933.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...657b22f50a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3dd796b37e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...997edc6a21.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8f35865960.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...141c2e22c7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...145f0a489c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e3b9206402.jpg Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk |

Very cool stuff Mark. I picked up this circa 1938 Johnny Vander Meer pin with ribbon.

Thanks, fellas. Yes, Mark I believe it was shortly after he pitched his no-hitters and perhaps carried over into the following season...

Great posts so far -- love those records and the Vandy pin!
I was channeling my inner Carlton when I picked up this piece at a flea market in Central NY this week. It's bronze, huge and very heavy. Not baseball obviously, but I just love the look. I didn't buy it when I first saw it, but when I went back, it was still there, so it came home with me. Greg |

Pick ups August
More great items as usual guys, cool Babe records and Vandy pin. Found this ball cruising through a Maine flee market last week. Noticed the red/black stitches and grabbed it for short money.

Thanks Rob -- I love Carlton's stuff!
Mark I think they retired the trophy after it was won by one school three times. Clyde Potts by the way, was the longtime mayor of Morristown, NJ in the 20s and 30s -- there is apparently a lot of stuff in that area named for him. Greg |

Here are some more pickups from my two different flea markets this weekend.
Among the highlights -- a Ted's Root Beer crate, a 1939 Doubleday Field souvenir bat, huge photo of heavyweight champ Tommy Burns, some Bob Coyne artwork, a complete set of U.S Army cards and more -- Greg |

And a few more goofy pieces, including one ugly Yankees pennant --

Nice work Greg!

I have been looking at these for years after the first bat bank I seen posted on here. I finally broke down and bought one last night. I bought this era because it has my favorite player Wade Boggs in it.

Thanks for your nice comments Chris and Scott, and nice bat bank Ben -- those things always look great in a baseball display. Greg |

Here it is and a brief description from the web on it
very interesting, vintage, figural cigar / cigarette lighter of Baseball Player in Batter's Stance. This Art Metal Works / Ronson (of Newark, NJ) lighter is sometimes referred to as the Babe Ruth (or Honus Wagner) lighter or "liter." Its base is marked with embossed lettering: "COPYRIGHT 1913 BY LOUIS.V. ARONSON." |

I posted this on the card side because of the Polar Bear reference but figured I'd throw it up here as well. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c7b63e3cb0.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5fdf142bd6.jpg Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |

Those two signs are both off the charts -- where do you hang a twelve foot sign Ron??? Greg |

I just acquired this 6˝ x 8˝ glass plate negative of the 1912 U.S. Olympic rifle team. Though not a full plate this is the largest one that I now own, most of the others being 4x5.
This was listed as the 1908 team, but I knew otherwise. I already own a formal team shot of the 1912 team fully identified. Probably one of the few in existence as the US Olympic Committee does not even have one. The clue for me was the shortest man in the center. That is Harris Laning, Lt Commander at the time he was an admiral during WWI. He was the non-competing team captain which was not uncommon back then. I believe that the negative and my original photo were taken at the same time as they are all standing in the same order in each image. I did not want to start up my pro photo scanner so I just captured the image from the ebay listing. My photo is 5x7 mounted on an 8˝ x 9 mat with a nice 2+ inch margin on the bottom embossed with a coat of arms. |
My wife and I also collect original Disney Art and she just handed me an early birthday present that came in the mail today.

I can't believe that nobody has connected the two completely unrelated Goofy posts in this thread...
