I was a bit surprised how much that tharps Ruth sold for...15K I believe?

I just don't get why just because he is depicted in an old pitching pose over 10 years later this/these type cards have gone so crazy?????

Seems like 2-3 years ago this was a 2K card?


On a positive note I was happy to see the 1921 exhibit sell for 9K.

Baseball card collecting apparently has its own unique form of inflation. :eek:

You only need two people to get caught up wanting something to really bid something up. Inflation

However, if there is only one caught up in the bids then you see Deflation

There had been some price weakness in the marketplace. I was surprised by the strong prices on the few dozen items I was keeping an eye on - all of them!

When I read this post title. I thought Pete already received what he won last nite. LOL:D

I think it all about the Boston uniform.

I thought the Tharp's set without the keys a a jaw-dropping total...16K+ on 56 cards...minus the big stars??? Whoa

Ive noticed the following trend.....1) Im bidding on it..... goes for new record and Im blown out of the water. 2) I like it but dont bid..... someone steals it for less than it sold for 5 years ago. This approach has saved me millions of dollars over the last few years but of course I never win anything either.....

I think that I saw a PSA 6 Aaron go for under 6k - less than a PSA 6 Clemente. I think it was up over 10k right after he passed. I think I saw it as high as 12k at its peak.

I was surprised to see a T207 Donlin sell for nearly twice the price of a T207 Irv Lewis, both graded 5. The Donlin was a Cycle back, maybe that was the deal. Or maybe I've been overestimating Lewis's value.

Perhaps, but the York Caramel stayed reasonable. Was surprised at the Tharp price too.

I was surprised too, but then you look at the PSA population report and there have been fewer Donlin’s grades and the 5 is the highest grade (excepting qualifiers). So maybe not so crazy?

I was able to get the lot of 4 series 8 T210s (I needed 2 of them). The total was a little more than I thought it would be but Memphis players (Babb) are tough. I tried to get the T210 lot of 9 lot primarily because of the orange border Burch and the Revelle, but the price with the 20% vig was a little high. Looks from the bidding that someone else was after the Burch too because we went back and forth all night.
My surprise was that there are still several T210 collectors out there. After seeing videos of National it looked like everyone is chasing shiny chase cards produced during the last couple of years.

Well, that answers my question, haha. I literally just finished posting in the BST wondering if anybody won the lot of four and had the Babb available. Congrats!

Thanks! Sorry Babb and Perdue were the two I needed. The other 2 series 8s are available. Both the Hart and Britenstein are in nice shape.

The nice looking one was a record for that grade, I would think. Strong price and nice card (of course I am a little biased).

I was the underbidder for the Tharp's Ruth card, so I apologize to the winner for running him up. (I did win the Tharp's Gehrig.) Practically, most of Ruth's cards are now multiples of what they sold for even a year ago. Other threads have debated where all of this money is coming from, but it's coming from somewhere. As others have said, the Tharps card is rarer than the Harrington, York, or Yeungling although not as rare as the Sweetman. There are others with the same pose that are even tougher. I have not seen a Tharp for sale at auction for a while. I wanted to try to grab it if I could. One of my bigger regrets was not bidding up a Sweetman Ruth in a Sterling auction around a decade ago. However, in the end, the price became too rich for me. Saying that, I don't think the price is a complete outlier given the current price for Ruth cards, and the scarcity for this one.

Interesting, I didn't realize that the Tharp was that much tougher.

I was surprised by the price in relation to the York but makes sense now knowing the rarity. I personally think they all should be worth more than Goudeys.
