Cast Iron Player Bank

3 Attachment(s)
All,

Obtained this cast iron player bank. Through searching online it appears to be similar to the Ty Cobb banks from the early 1900s. Haven’t come across one with the gold finish though. Just wanted to see if anyone had an opinions or details on the age and even the value of this.

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, they made a lot of reproductions of the bank and I believe the one you pictured is one of those. I hope I am wrong though. I think a closer up picture of the screw might help determine its age.

They at least used a straight screw to try and be accurate. A Phillips head is a dead give away. I’ve never seen even a repop with the shiny paint yours has so if it is original it’s been repainted. These were made by A.C. Williams company. Usually a repop will have a rougher surface where the originals are smooth because they used better molds. Also many times the fit is not good on the repop.

Smooth surface. Does not show any signs of being repainted. Similar to this

This is mine. I have seen them in many different color combinations. I haven't seen a gold one like yours because mine is cast iron. Yours appears to be bronze. Does it have a maker's mark? Cast iron used to be worth more. Ebay has brought their price down. This bank has been brought up on Net54 multiple times, and everyone agrees that using Ty Cobb in the title is sellers deception to get more views. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...87dbc363c3.jpg
