Non receipt of eBay item

Does anyone know ebays position of an item sent by first class with tracking, that the post office says was delivered at mailbox but customer says he never received

As long as tracking shows as delivered, eBay will back you.

Don't know if this is pertinent to your situation, but during the pandemic (time and time again) packages have been shown to be 'delivered,' but in reality the carrier basically marked everything as delivered before actually doing it. That exact scenario has happened to many people on this site (including myself) and the package showed up a day later.

Last time I checked, eBay Buyer Protection doesn't cover porch piracy. So long as tracking shows the item delivered, the seller is covered.

This assumes postage was purchased through eBay. I don't use Pirate Ship (there's an ironic joke in there somewhere) or similar services.

Over $650 USD value, you have to get signature.

Using Pirate Ship shouldn't matter.

I didn’t know, so I didn’t want to give bad advice. Sometimes, eBay can make things difficult for sellers who don’t keep everything in-house. Managed payments, for example.

Thanks for all of your input. Wasn’t sure if tracking backed me. I will find out when he makes a claim

Check the tracking

I recently had a package that was "out for delivery" but did not show up and was marked delivered later that night. The buyer was covered since it was scanned delivered and it fell on me to figure out what happened.

Check the tracking to see what time it was scanned delivered to see if it falls within your carriers usual delivery time in your area. My package was scanned at 6:30 pm as "delivered to locker" and my carrier (new trainee) was off work by then. A few questions at the post office revealed a route supervisor was checking the computer for packages that were "out for delivery" but not scanned and was marking them as delivered. The postmaster had a heated discussion with the supervisor and promised it wouldn't happen again. It was only a $20 item so I took the hit and passed on a complaint to Postal Inspectors.

One piece of advice. If you’re calling the Post Office for the ZIP Code where it was delivered, ask for the Postmaster.

if a inr is opened, even though ebay already has the info, make sure to add the tracking number to the claim.

The packaged was marked delivered with a time stamp. The buyer has been in contact with the P.O. but has had no success. The carrier insists that he delivered the package. (probably to wrong house). I called ebay. They stated that as long as I have have a tracking number I shouldnt worry about it. We will see. The buyer has put in a claim for refund. I will know later this week.

The USPS has the ability to see where the scan was made and locate the package. Several packages I have sent over the years have wound up mis-delivered. The USPS was able to determine where the delivery scan was made, go out and retrieve the package and then deliver to the correct location.

And yes, you shouldn't worry about this package because as a seller you have met your obligation for delivery. Likely, your buyer will receive a "courtesy" refund from ebay.

About three months ago I had a card marked "Delivered" (to my PO Box) and it was not. Thankfully it was only a $3 50's common but was still frustrating. I contacted the Seller just to make sure they knew...I was quickly offered a Return...it's a very reputable Seller and I am sure the price made it very arbitrary considering how much I spend there...but was really cool it was offered. I said no, it's marked delivered...let's wait it out. Had it been $650 card I am positive I would have a different reaction...haha.

A week later when checking my mail I had a note in my Box to see the cashier (small town, I know the employees personally, and they love making fun of me as I am the guy with a ton of yellow envelopes every day...haha). Turns out the envelope containing the $3 common was accidentally put in another person's PO Box...and that person returned it...and they just wanted to say sorry. Got lucky, but goes to show people are only human.

Couple weeks later I got a package...opened it up and it was two old school VHS porn movies...looked at the address, wrong PO Box only this time it landed in mine. Yes, I took it back...haha...and to be honest in the back of my mind it does freak me out a little that it happens...

Nice ending. Customer received his package. Neighbor held it for a couple of days. Thanks for all the input.
