How are you identifying

the Ryan as a Milton Bradley card?

horzverti 07-25-2021 03:23 PM

It is a Milton Bradley.

It does look like a Milton Bradley. The 1968 Milton Bradley Baseball cards were on the same sheet as the white bordered 1967 Milton Bradley Football cards. The white on the left edge makes you think that the next card on the sheet was a football card.
Of course, the only way to know for sure would be to see the back, which isn't possible in this case.

It is 100% a Milton Bradley. Which begs the question, how did a Milton Bradley card make it into a Topps Xmas rack?

Seeing the back is not the only way to know for sure that this is a Milton Bradley.

The best and simplest way to determine whether a 68 Ryan is a Topps or MB card is an easy to spot indicator on the front of the card. There is a splotch of black ink in the letter “T” in the word “STARS” - every MB will show that black splotch.

Some are confused with the distance of the white line from the black border line on left edge of Koosman (i.e. - the width of “burlap” in between the while and black). The amount of burlap you see here is consistent with every other MB Ryan. Sometimes there is a significantly wider amount of burlap between the back and white - the wider burlap cards are regular Topps cards and not MBs.

It looks like a Ryan MB because it is a Ryan MB.

Excellent question. The Christmas Rack packs were not produced by Topps. They were created using cards from general circulation/wholesale and then distributed as Christmas gift packs. I am not sure that any collectors or hobbyists differentiated between MB and Topps cards back when these packs were put together. Even if they knew the difference back then, I am not sure they would have cared. I would think that Topps would have included their logo and copyrights if they produced these.

These were obviously produced for Santa by his elves - hence his image on the tag. <insert smiley face here to show that I am joking>

Also….I lowered the price and will entertain offers.

It’s a Milton Bradley card in my book.

I'd have no problem describing it as likely Milton Bradley.
