Karras, Hornung in HOF but not Rose ?
I see Alex Karras and Paul Hornung are in the NFL HOF and they bet on football games but Pete Rose is still on the outside ? Do you think Pete will get in someday or is baseball more rigid and less forgiving than the NFL ?

Hornung doesn't belong in on the merits actually so that's a real travesty. Karras had to wait forever to get in.

His post history until those was relatively normal; I hope he was a troll playing the long con and not someone whose account got hacked.

Football HOF has admitted steroid users in their HOF. Maybe it's time to let Bonds,Clemens, and others in the Baseball HOF. JMO

Pro Football Hall of Fame only considers what happened on the field. Baseball Hall of Fame considers off field issues.

I don't think if you made an even cursory look into the circumstances of the Hornung and Karras cases, and then the Rose case............you could see that they were even remotely similar.
Hornung and Karras pretty much outed themselves in the press thinking they were doing something completely innocent, in making friendly wagers among friends. Karras was probably the more serious case, because he was also associated via business interests with known mobsters and gamblers, but even he was pretty up front about it. Basically said if the NFL wants him to drop his off-season business interests, then the Lions need to start paying him a little better. They were both suspended for a season and then re-instated the next year...........lesson learned apparently. Closest correlation in the baseball world would probably be Mantle and Mays being banned from baseball for a bit, for associating with casinos in the early 80's. |
