Portrait Runs
8 Attachment(s)
I am not sure this is a thing, but after posting a red, white and blue grouping of Honus Wagner portraits on a different thread, which looked real cool, I thought why not start a thread of all the different cards with the same (or very similar) portrait pose of players -- a portrait run. So here is Honus, first looking right and then left. Lets see see some player portrait runs
|
Impressive, wow, amazing, awesome... and all of the other words of shock, amazement, and appreciation. Words fail to do justice to that assemblage of cards. (And how is anyone gonna post a portraits run after THAT one?)
To top it all off... there's that Lionel Carter card. He seemed to me a nice, kind, soft spoken gentleman. I like to think I'll gradually calm down toward Mr. Carter's end of the spectrum... a bunch of us would benefit to ease in that direction. Mr. Rhotchkiss, Thank You Sir for posting those. |
Thanks for the kind words. But Honus is the only one I have with that many portrait picks. The early Horner shots found their way on numerous issues. It would be great to see some other players

Amazing collection you have!

A Fun Run......
Ryan.....Great start for a new thread.....with your remarkable run of Wagner portraits.
My favorite T205 is Miller Huggins. He is the guy who persuaded Col. Jacob Ruppert (Yankees owner) to acquire Babe Ruth from Boston in 1919....and the rest is history. I think this run is complete. Although, I expect a DRUM back may eventually be discovered. As of today, no Huggins DRUM has been confirmed, so, I say it is "complete". Deerfoot
J. Clyde "Deerfoot" Milan. Outfielder for the Washington Senators in 1907-1922. 2,100 hits and 495 stolen bases in 16 MLB seasons. 1912 and 1913 AL stolen base leader, including a then record 88 in 1912. His career OBP was .353. Managed the Washington Senators in 1922. His best season was probably 1911 for the Washington Senators as he posted a .395 OBP with 58 stolen bases and 109 runs scored in 705 plate appearances. (I guess the T206 is not really a portrait, but I'm leaving it in.) https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1625518499 https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1625518663 https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1625518696 https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1625518706 https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1625518714 https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1625518733 https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1625518771 https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1625518783 https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1625518791 |

Here's a portrait run of George Gibson (who else) that is a work in progress.
An E121: <img src="https://www.collectorfocus.com/images/show/georgegibson/baseball-cards/13376/1921-e121-american-caramel" width="400" /> A V100: <img src="https://www.collectorfocus.com/images/show/georgegibson/baseball-cards/12102/1922-v100" width="400" /> A W501: <img src="https://www.collectorfocus.com/images/show/georgegibson/baseball-cards/18120/1922-w501" width="400" /> And a TCMA Reprint: <img src="https://www.collectorfocus.com/images/show/georgegibson/baseball-cards/33134/1972-tcma" width="400" /> I also own a W575-1, but don't have it handy. I'd love to track down the Herpolsheimer's and E123 Curtis Ireland someday. Anyway, I also have this. Maybe the most interesting piece of the run. A/the photo that was used for each of the cards. <img src="https://www.collectorfocus.com/images/show/georgegibson/press-photos/58264/1921-photo" width="400" /> What's more interesting (to me), though, is actually the back of the photo. I think I've shown this on here before. When I bought the photo it made no mention of 'Glory of their Times', but it seems to me this may be the actual physical photo used for the book. <img src="https://www.collectorfocus.com/images/show/georgegibson/press-photos/78024/1921-photo-back" width="400" /> If you look up the "Picture Credits" in the book, it says this: "Many of the pictures in this book were obtained from the personal albums of the players themselves. the sources of the others are as follows:" There is no source for the Gibson photo. So....? Cheers, Richard. |
