SGC Grading Question

3 Attachment(s)
Hello,

I've got the 1934 Goudey Gehrig card pictured below, which I am intending to have graded by SGC for resale purposes (although it's still on the BST should anyone want to make a last minute offer).

This would be my first time submitting to SGC, and given the condition of the card (severe paper loss on the back, some small patches of clear plastic tape on the front), I wanted to check with the group first to see if there was any real danger that SGC might refuse to encapsulate the card given its condition (for example, on the basis that it was too altered).

Many thanks for any thoughts!

That one might not get encapsulated.

I had a Ted Williams that looked very similar did not get slabbed. It did have a small tear though.

If you just wanted it holdered as authentic (or perhaps Poor), any of the grading companies would do

Some of them won't if the card is deemed too fragile.

Yes, I just want it encapsulated for authentication purposes to sell on eBay, etc. If SGC is iffy (and PSA currently cost prohibitive), is there another company that would be more likely to holder it? Beckett?

Alternatively, would people just consign it directly to an auction house instead?

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated!

For anyone following along at home, I ended up contacting SGC and they informed me that the card wouldn't be encapsulated due to the condition.

I was just about to suggest that!

Guess you beat me to it. I would try Beckett customer service and ask the question. Not sure if it helps it or hurts it, but could try CSG.

Thanks Howard, I may end up doing that. BVG is still so expensive for a submission, though, that I may end up waiting a bit until their prices go down. Appreciate it!

Any Backlog for regular normal card subs ?

...does Beckett Grading still have a backlog for normal $$ charge "BGS" and "BVG" subs ? Or did they get all caught up like "SGC" did.....??

Not sure about timing, but the cheapest option right now from BVG is $125:
