1952 Topps High # 332 - Guess the Grade
So this last week in my quest to finally begin to tackle the 1952 Topps set, my brother and I got a tip on some never been to the market 52 Topps here locally and we went and took a look. Ended up with a nice lot...mostly in "collectors grade" but ended up with some nice high numbers. We decided to send this one into be graded by SGC for a possible sale to fund other 52's. This one is probably too nice for my set aspirations...and considering I am NOT a grading expert, was curious what others may think this may grade out. Would send to PSA if that was an option, but clearly that is not at this time...lol. What do you guys think? Guess the grade? Will be looking to mail out later next week...and guessing seems to be a lot of fun here...

Got a couple other high numbers, but nothing else doubled up... Any guesses? (My brother thinks we should wait for PSA...I honestly just don't care...) |
My guess
3.5-4

Unless I'm missing something that doesn't show on the scan, it looks like a 5 to me, but I'm a terrible guesser. :o

Without the stain, a 5.5. With it, probably a 4. PSA is pretty lenient on OC/miscut backs from the 1950s sets.
This isn't your average high number. You should read up on the hoarder of this card if you haven't already. |

It's hilarious that you got two of them!!! After years and years of reading about the hoarder, who knew there were any left floating around??!! Awesome!!!

Whoa...wtf?? I had no idea about this card!!! A search here and I found that thread, I'm on page 2 of 5...that guy is crazy!! I also had no idea the value of this card, I feel kind of stupid to be true. I clearly have spent no time researching the 52 Topps set (I am going to change that ASAP). I assumed in this shape it's worth a couple hundred bucks and knew it was a high #...did that guy really drive up the value to what I am seeing on Ebay?? WTF?
Anyhow, thanks for the tip to search here, entertaining is an understatement. WOW. I see he got banned from here...dude, if your still reading, we are selling...HAHA... Harliduck@aol.com **I'll add a story i've told here before, this isn't the first time I've shown my naïve on this set. About a dozen years ago I had about 50 EX 52 Topps cards I got from a guy who opened them new who was a local retired teacher. I got them in the 80s, was never really interested in them other than being 52s. I was putting together a 65 Topps set and figured I'd sell them to fund. I put them in groups of 10, and started the auction at $15 if I remember right. 4 of the 5 lots sold for the $15, I was a little disappointed but the other lot sold for $150ish. I was like wth? All were no name commons to me...I messaged the buyer and just asked him...and he told me he needed the 4 High numbers in the group...I had no idea. I learned a little that day, apparently didn't learn enough...haha. |
Even the experts forget some stuff on this set. One member started auctioning cards from the set off on the Net54 auction board, then realized (or was notified?) that the cards were the rare gray backs from the 131-190 series. I found three in years of browsing COMC and sold them for $1000 total.

Well...the guess the grade will not be happening on my end...shipping the card to a fellow net54 member and canceled part of the SGC sub...
All I will say is the crazy guy can't have all the Tony's...:) |

With the "new" SGC who knows. I'd guess anywhere from a 3 to a 5.5.

Yup!
