I havnt collected seriously in a long time . A friend of mine has a few cards he found and I’m interested in buying but don’t want to make a mistake. Also don’t want to break any rules and post them in the wrong spot . Pre War all of them. Some guidance where to go would be appreciated !

Not an expert, but they all look like reprints.

Wimberleycardcollector 05-11-2021 04:34 PM

Reprints I'm guessing.

rdwyer 05-11-2021 04:59 PM

Reprints. How much he's asking for? HaHa

Just look at the centering on them. Almost all of them are "too good".

I'm pretty sure that this is the Goudey 149 in the photo. It's a 'novelty' card as they like to call it. Check the details, I think you'll see that this is the same, such as the alignment of the banner at the bottom to the portrait area (red to red), as well as the word BOSTON on the back, with the B and T bolder than the other letters. And RUTH on the top of the back being lighter than the rest of the words in GEORGE HERMAN (BABE) RUTH.

And fyi, here is that novelty card along with a real 1933 Goudey, both under normal white light and then both under a 365 nm UV light.

Be aware that this does not work for all reprints and counterfeits. Despite what I've read in some places on the internet, there are plenty of modern cards and reprints that do not fluoresce.

Here's a pinterest link that shows reprints of some of those cards for sale.

They look pretty good for reprints.

Here's what the color on that Orange E98 Cobb should look like.

Exactly how good a friend is he?

Faker should have mixed in some Joe Shlabotniks too. A nice stack of only the biggest name HOFers...classic amateur mistake.

I still want to know how much the fool wants for those cards. :)
