Poor condition Mantles
1 Attachment(s)
This may sound weird, but I have this goal of collecting poor condition Mantles. I run in to some at cards shows and can get them pretty cheap (under $50) because of the creases and whatever else. But I love the character of of those cards and want to collect his 60s set and then his 50s set, minus the impossible rookies.
Selling any? Please give me a price and a photo of front and back. This idea all started when I bought a 1954 Red Heart Mantle for $50. It had four rounded corners and not a single person said it was real on a Facebook page for vintage collectors. I took the chance and submitted to PSA. The card came back a PSA 1. Crow was for dinner. |
Not a weird goal at all. I love the character of low grade vintage. Makes me wonder about the stories the cards could tell and about the kid(s) that obviously cherished those cards.
I have some similar cards in my collection. Quick question: How do you store your raw, low grade Mantles? I've taken a liking to using one touches without an inner or outer sleeve for the few I have. Best of luck with your project. |

I love crow, with a little salt and pepper...delicious

The bad thing is though, a lot of fakes are artificially aged to make them give the appearance of being real. Case in point, the colors on the 1959 are so off, that I doubt that that one is real. I am sure no one means anything bad by it. But if you get burned a couple of times, you will feel the sting.

I had a Musial RC that had creases that looked like veins. That thing was alive.
I traded it for a few cards I needed for a set, but yes, I do love the character of POOR cards for a oddball PC Quote:

In this forum someone might sell fakes?
I am pretty good at determine fakes from real - hence the Red Heart story- everyone called it a fake but I knew it was real when I bought it so I took that risk. Quote:

The 59 Mantle I showed is 100% real
