Beware - Beckett Proving their Relative Incompetence

Not to mention the person listing the card clearly knows he is scamming people and trying to take advantage of BVG’s screw up (read description). If the owner of this listing is on net54, you are a scumbag piece of crap.

Not that not only is the name spelled correctly, but the MagIE error only comes in Piedmont series 150.

sportscardpete 04-03-2021 08:40 AM

Everything about this is awful. Seller should do the right thing and get it re-holdered. Seller is just as bad.

nolemmings 04-03-2021 08:50 AM

Not a good look for Beckett or the seller, but it's hard for me to well up a tear for any buyer who either cannot or refuses to read.

Actually that is the INCREDIBLY rare double misspelled version they spelled the misspelling incorrectly as Magee. Not to be confused with the correct spelling. The way to tell the difference is the EE's are in the opposite order.

LOL....I was thinking they just got it opposite also....I think they think the Magie is the correct one and the Magee is spelled incorrectly.

.

Buy the label not the card!

also reported.

danmckee 04-03-2021 09:36 AM

That is a bad mistake for sure. Wrote the seller but I imagine he will just yell.

Sherwood is getting a lot of attention these days. LOVE IT...

Johnny630 04-03-2021 10:09 AM

Didn’t someone years ago replace or add letters to this card and get it slabbed as the Magie ?

Aquarian Sports Cards 04-03-2021 10:11 AM

Yes and Keith Olberman bought it. You want to talk about yelling.

Yes a certain notorious (reputed) card doctor, allegedly.

This might be it.

That was a Doyle NY Nat'l that was doctored that Keith bought

I was at the Philly Tuff Stuff show that it originally sold to Alan Rosen at.

iwantitiwinit 04-03-2021 10:32 AM

I don't have it but I want it. Take two zeros off and I am interested.

ThomasL 04-03-2021 10:34 AM

would pair nicely with the fake Sherwood Magee Beckett slabbed autograph cut that sold a month or so ago...Beckett also authenticated a fake Jake Daubert cut that was sold at the same time

The rare reverse order double EE! I thought that was a myth. This is like finding a unicorn reciting Shakespeare!

Must be getting old I thought he bought the doctored "I" MAGIE.

So many scandals hard to keep the details straight.

tedzan 04-03-2021 02:29 PM

Hey Guys,

I might add that the Magie error card was printed ONLY with PIEDMONT 150 backs.

Ted: that nugget was in the 1st post. And I'll disagree with calling this a scandal, it's probably just an error, albeit on a very expensive card if labeled correctly. We as a group need to be careful about thinking EVERYTHING is a scandal.

It’s been bid up to $14000.
How does someone place a bid of this magnitude without knowing what they are buying?
I remember examining the Sheffield upper deck error card for hours trying to figure out which one had “SS” upside down.

This one is pretty straightforward. You need to be aware only that the name is spelled 2 different ways. Lol

$14,000 is what the seller put the starting bid at.

phlflyer1 04-04-2021 12:17 PM

The seller appears to have changed their eBay ID right before listing the card as well (ID was changed on 4/2) so I would imagine that any emails to the seller will go unanswered as its likely they know the card isn't what the label says it is.

Ahhh, I see.
I reported to eBay as a fraudulent item. Will see

Fuddjcal 04-04-2021 01:52 PM

What's a Magie?

pokerplyr80 04-04-2021 03:22 PM

Is anyone from Beckett on this forum? I would assume they'd pull the cert # if they're made aware of the error.

drcy 04-04-2021 03:23 PM

The parts to this:

1) Beckett made a rather embarrassing mistake, 2) The seller is unethical and a scammer, and 3) It's up to the buyer (though I doubt there will be one) to read.

chadeast 04-04-2021 03:23 PM

It is no longer listed.

steve B 04-05-2021 12:01 PM

Did anyone else not like the card itself? Even as a regular Magee?

Good point. I hadn't looked closely at the card itself, just the nameplate.
