PSA Complete-Through Tracking
For those of us who like to watch for when a pot of water starts boiling...
https://i.postimg.cc/bNVMBrpp/PSAwait-210331.jpg On how to read it, it's the lag in days at the date on x-axis. For example, on 3/1/21 Regular service was complete through about four months prior. That went down to about two months of lag in the middle of March, but has been creeping back up recently. I'll try to update this graph here about once a month. |
April 2021 update
It's never good when you have to adjust the y-axis.
https://i.postimg.cc/WzBh6yPN/PSAwait-210501.jpg -- edit I do try to follow at least some rules: https://i.postimg.cc/65hkZmxt/T212-Zackert.jpg And yes, it's one of the ones in purgatory. |
May 2021 update
Through May 31.
No moving the y-axis this time, but it was close. https://i.postimg.cc/XYk08gwd/PSAwait-210531.jpg |

Not a whole lot of difference between Q Specials and Economy submits - still 9 - 11 months out????
WTF! Any other business that couldn't service a customer for 9 - 11 months would be heading "Out of Business" pretty quickly. Oh Yea - A Mudhen! <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/150864751@N07/51353258820/in/album-72157711330478736/" title="Lattimore, Bill PSA 2 - Piedmont (Obverse) 2"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51353258820_a40187f128_m.jpg" width="143" height="240" alt="Lattimore, Bill PSA 2 - Piedmont (Obverse) 2"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |
The psa ctd does NOT include group submissions through dealers so it not accurate, depending on what percentage of cards in the backlog are group submissions. For example, in my case, the Ctd states 11/10/2020 for value vintage BUt my vintage bulk was entered on 10/12/2020.

A grader grading cards? Where the cards, they are all graded. Wheres the grader, he left since there was no cards. |
From what I have heard from a few sources, now, is that the larger auction houses do not have to play by these rules nor do the high volume submitters. They are still getting fast turnaround times and many of the grading tiers that are not available to us have still been available to them since the suspension.
When you are as important to the industry as PSA is you can do whatever you want. People will still line up and accept it. :( |
Untrue. Some Tesla orders of special models have taken longer. There are other examples. I agree this has taken a very long time but what did you want them to do? hire unqualified people? you can’t just call temp star and have them send over 5 card graders. It was an unforeseen spike and they had no way to handle it. I love the clowns that scream and holler like they would have been able to handle the issue. But hey it wouldn’t be the internet if foolish people
With little knowledge of facts weren’t screaming like they know it all. Quote:

I'd vote you are absolutely incorrect. Many big dealers and submitters complaining it is now closer to a FIFO set up. Check the bulk subs over on blowout. 9 months for a "20 day" submission. |

Craziness.

2 big submitters I know, and one auction house. Maybe you can tell us who is getting preferential treatment? Not from like the media, Facebook and stuff, ones you know personally. |

hypothetically based on all that data, how long would you think a submission that was entered in february 2021 would be waiting? 6 weeks per current month of backlog? |

I couldn't say because there's a lot more going on behind those single lines, but it doesn't strike me as a unreasonable hope. You might not be in that bad a shape, though. I had a Q-Special logged in January, and it just went to grading, so seven months is way ahead of eleven. Not that it couldn't get stuck at the stage for a while. The numbers that I'd really like to have are the 99% Complete-Through (that way a few lagging shipments can't hold up the numbers) and the %-for-Month skipping ahead when the preceding month reaches 99%. |
I need to reholder a couple high end cards but dont want to send them in with the complete through tracking showing still not complete with January reholders. I Called PSA today trying to get some insight on reholders. They told me if you submit via the expedited reholder service that its faster (the $100 Tier or higher) anyone submit reholders lately via this so-called expedited service and was it faster?

August 2021 update
|
It has struck me over the last few months that more consignment lots have SGC graded cards, especially when the auction house indicates "We have selected XXX cards for grading and encapsulation by SGC."
Anyone else noticing this? Some examples include: https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...e?itemid=88971 https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...e?itemid=88982 https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...e?itemid=89085 I've seen this in other AH's recent auctions. |
You'll definitely see more new SGC in our Pre War auction than you would have before all this went down.

Looks like new levels should be opening up soon hopefully they’re making some progress

Definitely more SGC graded cards
IMO they are are comparable graders (for better and worse). The world doesn't stop because PSA does.

September 2021 update
Through September 30.
https://i.postimg.cc/Y0DtT699/PSAwait-210930.jpg I know we were all hoping for the little yodeling backpacker dude from The Price Is Right to fall off the cliff, but he just fell onto some rocks instead. |
Interesting
What is exactly is the graph on the right ? |
Quote:
The graphs show how far back the complete-through dates are from the current date (on the x-axis). For example, we're at the end of September, and Quarterly Specials is complete through about eleven and a half months prior. |
Thank you - I am not familiar with bulk submissions...
|
an order i sent in december that was logged in late february is now in QA1. seems like pretty good news.
anyone know timetable from QA1 to receiving them? |
Quote:
I will say I have 2 December bulk orders that just moved into grading. So I'd say everything from 2020 sounds like it may be back before a full year elapses. |

PSA got a whole crap ton of customers that are paying $100 + per card in front of yours..... |

Sorry for cutting the line.
I paid $50 each for 4 Tickets to be slabbed and I'm at 9 days since they received and seems to be moving right along.... |
Has there been any update on lower service levels opening up soon ? Maybe $100 a card ? I think we are moving in the right direction :-)

already moved to QA check 2, pretty awesome |
I have not seen an October psa update email. Any hope for lower levels this year?

My Bulk Rate Sub completion time
I dropped off approx. 1000 cards to PSA in May of this year. They broke it into five different subs. The first of the five just popped last week! Only about 6 months lead time! Amazing and "terrific" service considering that last year all of my bulk subs took about 12 months....They also advised me that my bulk rate sub costs would be going up to $18 per card if I spent $100,000 with them in submission cost over 12 months. If not, my bulk sub would cost $20 per card. Of course that level of submission is still not available.....
When I spoke to my SGC rep they are at $25 per card if sub is 100 cards or more. |
I predict raw cards will be making a comeback in a huge, huge way. That price point is just unsustainable for a lot of these cards.
|
Yeah, for whatever it's worth, I submitted something in their $150 level (yikes), and it got to them 10/4, was entered into their system 10/4, was graded and assembled by 10/7, and I got it back on 10/12. So it seems like they are moving pretty darn fast, at least on the highest levels, and this seems faster than the turnaround time postings had indicated. So maybe they are catching up...

October 2021 update
|
November 2021 update
Through December 2.
https://i.postimg.cc/SsHhKd3S/PSAwait-211202.jpg I finally got back a shipment of cards I'd mailed in late September of last year, that's 13+ months. (It spent two months in QA1 and suspiciously had a factory stamped card come back with an MK qualifier.) If that's typical, I'm guessing my late December order will be at least March 2022, which is 14+ months. If they keep at the apparent rate, it wouldn't surprise me if they were on pace to clear out the backlog by next August-ish. I really hope I'm way overshooting the mark on that. |
