33/34 Goudey have always been my favorite autographed cards to collect. It's like they where designed for signatures. I will start us off with Russ.

For sure, 33 Goudey is great... however Chas looks good on any card.

Exhibitman 03-27-2021 10:48 AM

Got this one at a small show in the late eighties. Appling took the card looked it over, and told me a story about how much he hated those uniforms. They were thick and dark and made the players sweat buckets and the team was too cheap to give them changes between double-headers so they would just wring out the unis and put them back on for the 2nd game.

Take your pic. Both are related. Phil played against Wilt in his 100 point game!

Phil Jordon (error on card Jordan) also died in 1965 in a boating accident.

Tough to choose! Wilt RC or the 1/1 Jordon signed!

Peace, Mike

You should've had him sign his 1973 card. Would have loved to be a fly on the wall for that conversation, as there's no way in heck he was thrilled with the photo that Topps used. Ha ha.

My collecting days in my youth were short. And, some 40 plus years later, I only have distinct memories of two cards that I absolutely know I owned. One is this Aaron Home Run King card and the other is, oddly enough, the 1974 Traded Fernando Gonzalez. If I had to chose one card to be buried with me it would be that Home Run King card.

I have been reading Howard Bryant's wonderful biography of Henry Aaron "The Last Hero" and I resolved to one day own a signed version of that card.

My favorite signed card, ironically enough given the tacit rivalry with Aaron is this:

What series is the Sam Rice from? I really enjoy cards with information like that on the back. As much as I enjoy T206, I wish it had a biography of each player on the back. Especially in 1910, 1920 it's not like someone could just hope on wikipedia and research the player whose card they just received, so that biography is important.

chadeast 03-27-2021 06:12 PM

Not technically a card, but as a Big Train collector I was thrilled to be able to pick this up recently! It's one of my favorite things I've ever owned.

Fantastic Mays. I would love to have his sig on a card. I'll work on that while you work on the Aaron. I've actually seen several other copies of the Home Run King card for sale on ebay. I think it was a popular one to have him sign at shows. You'll find one when you're ready.

These cards are listed in the Standard Catalog of Vintage Baseball Cards as "1926 Sports Co. of America Champions." They are also known as "Spaulding Champions." I don't believe they have an ACC listing. They also come with a much scarcer back with advertising offering an album for the cards (and no bio). Here's the link to what Old Cardboard has re this set: https://oldcardboard.com/o/h/sports-...?cardsetID=980

I've always liked this flash in the pan / brief career story. 27 strikeouts in his first two games.

If I remember correctly Johnny Podres got bombed in a spring training game and so he had to quickly warm up and enter the game earlier than expected. Ended up hurting his arm and was never the same.

That's one of the nicest WaJo signatures I've ever seen, Chad. Somebody on the board has a signed T206, I'm waiting for that to appear here.

Thanks Hank! Coming from you, that means a lot to me. I've been looking for an M114, but when this came along I was blown away. I found out after posting here that a fellow member and I bid ourselves up way beyond where we wanted to be on this, we both dearly wanted it. I only collect one player, the Big Train, so rest assured that this will be treasured and well taken care of.

P.S. I'm very glad that Hakes advertises here or I never would have known about it. That was such an amazing auction for memorabilia.
