RIP Fred Sasakamoose
This is the last card I needed to complete my 1954-55 Parkhurst set with the Lucky Premium backs, #82 Fred Sasakamoose. I also needed #82 for my set with the regular style backs, and picked that one up too (it's somewhere between here in NE Florida and Laval Quebec Canada lol). As a set builder it's always interesting to figure out why a certain card is the last one you need (usually it's one of the expensive rookie cards or superstar player).
according to wikipedia: *Fred Sasakamoose was one of the first indigenous players in the NHL. *Played in only 11 games in his NHL career *Was a Chief Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation Fred passed away 11/20/2020 due to Covid-19 What else do I need to know about Fred Sasakamoose? Fred was a superstar in western juniors before he got a shot in the NHL, and had a good long career in minor pro
after his brief NHL stint. More notably, though, he became chief of his Ahathkakoop Cree tribe, and will be best remembered for the the youth hockey programmes and other youth sports programmes he instituted for his tribe and for disenfranchised Indigenous kids in Canada. |
Freds standard back card arrived today. Over the past couple days I enjoyed reading some articles about his life.
