What is this?

I'm a Tim Wakefield collector and when an eBay search came up, I had to grab this. For $6 I figured I couldn't go wrong. The seller didn't know anything about it's background, so I thought I'd ask this august group.

This is slightly smaller than standard card size, and is a fairly heavy piece of pewter.

Does anyone know how this was issued, if it was part of a larger set or group, how one may have acquired it back in 1993, etc.?

Thanks!

I don’t know if what you found is a legit release or a custom make but I recently saw this and it occurred to me that with all of the 2020 project artist cards that have come out a lot of younger collectors are starting to make their own cards and sell them as artists themselves. There seems to be a niche market for what the american keepers guys refer to as “folk art”.

Looks like a molded card, which means it was made in bulk. No reason to make a mold to only use it a little bit. Not sure I've ever seen one before.

They made a hockey one, as seen in this Worthpoint link:
https://www.worthpoint.com/worthoped...x-91-455129317
Looks like they made 10,066 copies of Lemieux.

Get to it before they delete the listing, and save off the images for your reference.

Thanks - I also just realized I posted this in the wrong forum....

Cool. That is an item I would want for my collection if I saw one and don't even collect Wakefield. I have an odd gold Score Lee Guetterman card that is not similar to yours, but it metal. So many weird items that slip through the cracks!

I'd share an image, but not sure where the card is stored at this time!

I just went out to see if I could find one on ebay and there were a half dozen for sale at various prices. I went with the 99 cent BIN! Of course, it will cost me $5 to have it shipped, so I am into one for $6+ tax as well. Thanks for posting it.

Found a couple more similar, possibly by same maker

Larry Bowa and Rocky Colavito

I have a Richie Ashburn like this, but am unable to post a photo right now.

There is also a corresponding key chain that is smaller and round with the same image.
