Bulgaria Babe Ryth card

Any tricks to getting a Babe Ruth card off a Bulgaria album page?

ullmandds 02-10-2021 10:05 AM

huh?

Not sure if Bulagria Sport are safe to soak or not. Also not sure about the adhesive. If I recall correctly the adhesive is built into the album and you just wet it and stuck it. Is it water soluble?

In a perfect world you'd cut out around the card and soak it, but I don't feel it's safe to start with a Ruth.

Thanks. I have soaked many cards but will not chance it with the Ruth. Just hoping someone might have removed one.

ooooooh!!!!! I'd surmise they are soakable as I'd assume they were all in albums at some time???

Some were in albums, some not. I believe they were issued not in the albums originally. This one has been removed, but not sure how unfortunately, although it does NOT appear to have been soaked.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...286ea74454.jpg

I would be interested as well, as I have this distinguished German gentleman pasted on a Bulgaria Sport album page that I would like to soak. There is an additional issue of having another card, featuring two fellows, pasted onto the other side of the album page.

Please tell me how to release the German...I am willing to sacrifice the other card to the watery gods if necessary.

They came in cigarette packs and were meant to be pasted into albums designed and numbered specifically for the set.

I had two of the albums, and soaked all of the cards off the pages on one of them to get the Ruth. You can't really cut around the cards because you will cut through the cards on the other side of the page. Just remove and soak the whole page at one time. When I soaked the pages of the album the cards fell right off the pages quickly. Hope you have have as good of luck as I did.

Good news, and congrats Larry. It looks like German gentleman with moustache will likely be detached successfully in the future.

With this news...I think I also...will liberate my german gentleman with moustache card!

Kinda sad the whole book with all the "Cards" is worth less than a graded ruth!

With the soaking question handled, I don't feel as bad throwing my question on my card out there. Any idea how harshly SGC will take down the grade of this because of the staining on the back? No such staining on the front.

Likely going to max out at a "2"

I pulled out my bulgaria book yesterday...flipped through the page looking for the babe...who is near the end. And the book is just so beautiful...and is a nice chronology of mostly german sports with a smattering of world sports thrown in...mixed with beautiful photos and lots of german writing!!!!!

I just cant destroy it!!!! Not yet...atleast!!!!

I feel for you Pete. I had the advantage of not having to confront this dilemma...someone in Germany had already snipped out the cards, but had not separated them from the album page.
