Xander Bogarts Game Used Bat

My 16 yr old son was given a signed, game used Bogarts bat from his rookie season. Anyone have thoughts on value?

I asked a buddy of mine who collects Red Sox bats and he said "$600-1000 probably" and he asked for pictures.

For modern game used items, especially for items that aren't MLB or PSA Authenticated, value is relative to how well you can match the bat to its usage by Bogaerts and if it's tied to significant events.

In Bogaerts case could it be photomatched to his first MLB at bat? HR? During the 2013 World Series? Those would obviously fetch a premium.

As Doug said "$600-1000" might be a decent comp, but it really depends on its characteristics.

I strongly suggest you check out the 'MLB Game Used' Facebook page and post pictures of the bat there. Lots of collectors (Sox and otherwise) can do some research for you and give you fair (and some not so fair) assessment of value.

Thanks both for responding. I really don't have any provenance which is too bad. My son's friend gets his haircut at the same barber in Boston as some of sox players. At the time of one of his haircuts, Xander was in the chair next to him and they started talking baseball. Xander took a liking to the young kid and told him he would bring him one of his bats on the next visit. Which he actually did! The kid gave it to my son as a birthday gift. We were told that Xander offered to get a David Ortiz signed bat as well and the kid said "no thanks". Unbelievable...

Neat story.

I'm not a "bat guy" but if I understand correctly you can potentially create your own "provenance" by matching photos of the bat to game action photos oz Xander using the bat.

I agree with Doug. With modern players there's a ton of pictures and video out there to photomatch from on Getty, AP, MLB etc, unlike the older players.

If you are unable to find anything feel free to PM me pictures or questions. I'm not an expert per se but I collect modern Red Sox memorabilia and have a working knowledge of photo matching Sox stuff if you want help or considering selling it.

Also, some game used bats have much better eye appeal due to placement of ball marks, etc. How about posting a few photos of the bat overall, the barrel, and the knob?

Sounds like there are multiple people on this thread who can help you with determining specific game use of this bat.
