Peace, Mike:) |
So this is going to last half the night huh?
|
Midnight.....
Correct me if I'm wrong but if light bidding continues up until midnight (only 1 lot needs a bid in a 10 minute period to extend the entire auction) then all lots will continue with a final 10 minute countdown........
Actually I'll answer your question easier....... Yes! :) Mike |
Incredible T206 set. I estimated the auction would do at least a half-million dollars, so I've been surprised it hasn't created much buzz around here given that there are high-grade cards and rare backs. Don't remember the last time I saw this many Uzits in 4 holders in one auction.

Agreed!

I think the lack of talking about the auction is a bit strategic. Folks don't want to play their hands so to speak! Really fun to follow and bid! Peace, Mike |
5 minutes go by without a bid! ..... and then someone has to bid $70 for a Bob Rhoades.

Penny sleeve on Wajo?
1 Attachment(s)
I just noticed something interesting and confusing. The SGC 8 Walter Hands at Chest in the REA auction is also double protected in a penny sleeve much like Beckett does. I can't find another card in the auction that got this "White Glove Penny Sleeve" treatment! lol
Honestly, I like it and wish they did this for all cards they slab! Peace, Mike Attachment 436043 |

Won this one. Pollard had a nice collection...

Nice one. I picked this up.

I recognized the Jack Pollard name that these T206 cards came from as the same collector who had an awesome tip-top shape collection of Obaks that was auctioned off about 8-10 years ago. According to REA, it sounds like they will have more from his collection this upcoming year.

I bid on 4 cards and was shut out. But I have many fond memories of Mr Pollard who was happy to share his knowledge of all things related to rare and obscure Baseball cards especially tobacco issues.
I bought many odd type cards from him and the talked my Dad into a 1940 Playbal set that we picked up from him at the First Philly show ( Spring Garden college). I do hope that whoever grades the rest of his collection notes on the flips the cards came from his collection. He Deserves the recognition. |

I did not win this one... .but curious on what you all think. If you covered the grades, and put this in a pile of PSA 5s, I'd take this one all day. However, another user suggested to me this was only worth $3k. We talk about 'buying the card'. With 3s and 4s now going in the $4-$5k range, are you going to tell me that rounded, fuzzy corners and surface wear are preferable to barely noticeable pin holes? $6600 was the steal of the draft imo. |

What am I missing? |

Yeah, looks like there are two pinholes in the bottom border. Odd that someone would hang it that way.

a polar bear o'hara in a 5 holder for more than $28,000! wow! pwcc sold an sgc 5 about a year ago for $6,600.

Goodies.....

Got shut out on the "big, big" boys so got some nice eye appeal somewhat under the radar goodies.
Went for centering and clean looking which is usually an easy buy in SGC holders! I got bumped on the Magie error so HAD to grab the mesmerizing Magee. Elberfeld NY SGC 4 was the steal of the night for me (with only 6 total PSA slabbed examples of that back combo SC 150/25 and the highest being a 4) I woke up very happy to have gotten that for a little over $200. I use the PSA pop report because its easier for me to read! :) Brown, Lundgren, Matty, and Cobb were all VERY nice to see this morning also! :) Peace, Mike Attachment 436070 Attachment 436071 Attachment 436072 Attachment 436073 Attachment 436074 Attachment 436075 |

(Overall, some really strong prices, especially the rare backs). |
On the lack of buzz, while many people collect these, I suspect not as many as you might think. In talking to some friends who have gotten into the hobby in the last 10-15 years, none of them collect T cards.

Plank seems like it went lower than it should of? Didnt think I would win it but happy I did!

I had my eye on a few nice cards but they went for stronger prices than I wanted to pay. Great auction though.
. |
Got my cards today...they're so pristine it's actually freaking me out a bit.
|
I have to echo that hammertime...I got my REA shipment today as well and they really exceeded my expectations. I am pretty sure I got caught up in the moment during this T206 auction (and if I’m being honest, their auction last Fall as well...) and probably overpaid a bit for some things....but damn they make me happy.
|
Clearly you two are in the minority. I've read not as many people as we think collect T cards, let alone T206s. Lol.
|
Agreed!

It has actually been funny reading how SGC cards are not worth as much as PSA slabbed cards and we have all read "if you want to maximize go with PSA".....well a funny thing is happening and those that have been around awhile and really know cards are doing quite well with their SGC "tuxedos". Refreshing to see some of those cards do really well in that auction! SGC graded cards are doing well across all platforms as well! It's about time! Peace, Mike |
