1947 Jackie First Game AP Photo Question
2 Attachment(s)
I was thinking this is a first generation type AP photo, due to it's authentic feel and uneven crackling, consistent with other period photos I have seen. But this had to be a photo taken of a photo to get the ad print in it, correct? I haven't really studied these too much.

Leon, I leave the classification of photos to others, but wanted to point that Chapman was one of, if not the worst, name caller of Robinson in that first year.

All period wirephotos would be Type III, I believe, as they are copies from the original made at the time. Seems like there should be a separate classification for wirephotos, though, to distinguish them from Type III newsphotos made from the original at the time. Quite a difference in quality between those two circumstances for them to carry the same classification.

Can you see lines in the photo, particularly around the outline of the players bodies when you look at it under a loupe?

I agree that paper quality is a good indicator of type 3 vs wire. I’d be interested if your image is available.
