1888 Boston Baseball Association Capital Stock 1 Share Certificate. This was the 140th share issued in the Boston National League team that eventually became the Boston, Milwaukee and finally, Atlanta Braves.
Signed by Treasurer and part owner James "J.B." Billings as well as team President and Owner Arthur Soden. Dated March 16, 1888. Arthur Soden is credited with inventing the "Reserve Clause" in 1880, which forced players to remain with the same club for as long as that club desired to "reserve" their service. A really unique piece of baseball history! |
Apologies for questions which may be deemed "dumb" by collectors with more knowledge than myself :
How many items are there in the sale? What are their dimensions? Are they single or double sided? Feel free to email me, it might be easier to communicate that way. Thank you, Doug |
Thanks for the questions, Doug!
There are two documents included: 1. The actual stock certificate (approximately 4 x 6) with printing on both sides. They are the top picture on the left and the large picture on the right. 2. The check register receipt (approximately 4 x 3) which is blank on the back. That is the bottom picture on the left. Best, Steve |
Thank you sir. Very cool item. Very tempting.
