Ted Williams
I was looking at his 1941 season's numbers and it is just assinine that he didn't get MVP that season. You just look at those numbers and they pretty much would be MVP for any season in history. (and look at the Walks to K's ratio, unworldly)
Here: https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...illite01.shtml If someone knows of a better regular season advise. One other question does anyone know (reason for the post) why he only played a handful of games in 1952, 1953, & 1955. A few other non-full seasons. Was it an injury? Anyone know why? (oh wait, was that when he went to the Korean War, what an amazing life!) His age 27 season in 1946 is pretty bad ass as well. He's out 3 whole years, comes back and wins MVP, first season back, like he never missed a beat! Right back from bombing Nazi's. or was he in the Pacific? I need to brush up, they should make a movie on that dude. People say who is the greatest player of all time, and it's pretty much Ruth or Cobb. But when they say who was the greatest hitter, Williams immediately comes to mind, and I'm think fairly unanimously. If you have any Ted memorabilia please post. |

Some historical MVP voting races just blows my mind. Lou Gehrig won the Triple crown in 1934, and finished 5th in the MVP voting. |

Here is a piece about the 1952 season. What an athlete and career. I’m too young to have seen him, but I was born and bred a Red Sox fan so I can feel the lore and what it must have been like in Fenway with him there.

1941 was a great year for both Williams and Dimaggio. The thing that strikes me is that together they had 1,228 plate appearances and only 40 strikeouts.
Here's a photo of Ted signing my 500 HR lithograph at the National in Anaheim...yep, proof that they actually used to have a National on the West Coast. LOL |
I was lucky to stumble upon this.....

Ticket Stub from "The Shift" game. He also hit 3 HR's that day.
The Card however is not mine, just showing for reference. There are ZERO Tickets from The Shift Game graded by PSA, so pretty unique. |

How did I miss this thread until today?? Ted is my favorite, so I'm happy to see the love!
I like seeing the "Ted shift" ticket stub! Here's a couple of my favorites - a ticket stub and program to his last game in 1960. But also a program for an exhibition game at Fenway between the Red Sox and Braves on April 16, 1939 - 4 days before his regular season debut and his first MLB game in Boston. |
