SOLD 1865 Frank Leslie’s Illustrated w/ Jim Creighton

Now here’s something you don’t see everyday. I picked this up awhile ago with hopes of framing and displaying. Alas, I’ve run out of wall space for the time being so it needs a good home. REA offers these from time to time, prices are all over the place. The last two sold by them in 2020 for $930 (this one was hand colored, not sure how that would influence value) and $710. Neither was offered with the full issue intact as is the case here. There is some minor separation near the fold but this could be framed and displayed beautifully. Contains woodcuts of many stars of the day, including Creighton. Most likely the only likeness of Creighton you will ever own.

I can't believe no one is on this. It is the most historical baseball woodcut there is.

I agree - IMO, the ONLY reason this hasn't sold yet is lack of exposure. This is arguably the holy grail of all woodcuts. Not only does Creighton make an appearance, but so does Henry Chadwick, and I think it is his earliest appearance ever if I'm not mistaken.

GLWS!

There are few that compare, that's for sure.
