Grade this Gibson RC? Where?
I wanted to get some opinions from the Net54 crowd on what to do with this Bob Gibson RC. It's for my personal collection (I have wanted this card for some time) but I do want to maximize value. It's a fine card other than the centering, very nice corners and edges. Where should I grade it, if I should, to maximize value? Thanks.

The general rule of thumb (for maximizing value) would be to go with PSA. Their post-war cards usually (always?) sell for more. You'll have contrarians saying it's not the case, but whatever.
Side note: is that wax/gum residue to the left of his face, or just an optical illusion? If it is, take some panty hose and rub it away before grading. Don't want that 'ST' qualifier. Good luck!! |

Thank you. With OC cards like this one, is there a situation where I might hit a better number grade with BGS or SGC? The theoretical example I'm thinking of is hitting a 6 at BGS/BVG or SGC vs a choice between getting a PSA 7 OC or a PSA 5 (if I submit with no qualifiers accepted).

Are you wishing to sell it soon? If so, send to PSA and request no qualifiers. Probably a 5, maybe a 6 as a guess.
If you're not trying to sell it in the next year or so, just leave it raw. There's no real point in grading a card that you're planning on keeping. Who knows what the grading game will look like down the road and in order to maximize value at that time, you may have to grade it again. |
Sgc now accounts for centering in their overall grade. I say just psa it with NO qualifiers
