T207 Recruit factory 605, not 606?
2 Attachment(s)
I think I am going blind looking at the T207 Quinn, the middle card pictured in the scan below. To me it looks like it is factory 605, not the normal 606, because of the straight lines that intersect at the upper left corner of the '5'. I have included a couple of other cards, including a beat-up Quinn on the left, and close ups of the factory line of the Quinn in question and Needham on right as comparisons. What do you think?

Ehhh they look the same to me. I can see what you mean, and in that case, it almost looks like 505 if you look hard enough too. The top of that number looks curved to my eyes. I'd guess you need much stronger magnification to see it for sure. If you have to look at something too long, you're probably trying to make it something it's not. It's most likely a little wear that disrupted the ink a smidge or possible the ink was a little light when printed. Curious to see other opinions.

I imagine it is most likely 606, but dang if those lines don't come to a 90 degree point to make it a 5, and thus a 605. I certainly have not seen a 605 before, so it doesn't seem like I have just discovered something new. Then again, I found an one and still only M116 variation, so anything is possible.

I think it's an optical illusion.
Looking at the scans as shown, it does look like a 5. But blown up to 200% it looks like a 6 with a very weak top line. That could make the eye enhance the dark left side into a corner. Of course, normal definition computer scans can be misleading in lots of ways. |
