RIP HOF Bob Gibson

Wow, HOF Bob Gibson passed away last night. That's 4 in 2020!
Bob Gibson was one of the toughest competitors to ever take the mound. Additionally, Gibson was an elite athlete and was great at every sport he participated in. Fortunately for MLB fans, baseball was where he ended up. If you were a teammate you revered the guy; if you had to face him, you hated it. He won a record 7 consecutive times in the World Series. In game 1 of the 1968 World series he struck out a record 17 Tigers and bested Cy Young 31 game winner Tigers pitcher Denny McLain. In 1968 he posted arguably one of the greatest seasons in modern baseball history with 22 wins and a miserly 1.12 ERA. He also pitched a no-hitter against the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 14th, 1971 @ Pitt. Here's a toast to Bob Gibson! RIP Mr. Gibson |

Cheers!
He was quite nice to a high percentage of the 4,348 fans who "packed" into Candlestick for the May 18, 1981 game when he was coaching for the Mets, here's how I know : |

Here's my Bob Gibson in-person baseball from about 1989-1990. Still looks like the day he signed it. R.I.P. Bob Gibson.

"What are you doing here? Just give me the ball. The only thing you know about pitching is that you can't hit it." - Bob Gibson to Tim McCarver during a mound visit |
