He was incredible. I feel blessed to have been able to have seen him in his prime. Can't embed a video but his NFL Top 100 bio is on YouTube and well worth watching.

How would Sayers compare with Barry Sanders?

Sanders was the best I saw, but Sayers was before my time

Sayers was a slasher. Sanders was like a ping pong ball. They were both great. I think Sayers was faster. They were both extremely elusive.

In open field Sayers was the best I saw. I give him a slight edge over Sanders, very slight.

He was electric. Yes, great in the open field but he was often in the open field because he'd amazingly escaped from behind the line. Also a great returner. Sanders is probably the most comparable back, but I think Sayers was quicker and more elusive, and I know that's saying a lot. RIP, Gayle Sayers.

Also it's a toss up for me between him and Johnny Unitas for most beautiful football autograph. They are both almost artwork.
