One of the best. Met him in Vegas several years back. Very nice guy. RIP Gale.

Rest in Peace- all he needed was "18 inches of daylight". The great ones are all leaving us. Trent King

Best running back i've ever seen. Had he not been injured early in his career his numbers would be on top of all.

Rock Chalk! A hero on the KU campus. RIP.

He was incredible. I feel blessed to have been able to have seen him in his prime. Can't embed a video but his NFL Top 100 bio is on YouTube and well worth watching.

How would Sayers compare with Barry Sanders?
Sanders was the best I saw, but Sayers was before my time |

I read this as a kid. Great lessons for life.

Professors that saw him play in the 60's were still telling us students stories about him in the 80's. |
He was electric. Yes, great in the open field but he was often in the open field because he'd amazingly escaped from behind the line. Also a great returner. Sanders is probably the most comparable back, but I think Sayers was quicker and more elusive, and I know that's saying a lot. RIP, Gayle Sayers.

So happy that I was old enough to see him play! R.I.P.

Also it's a toss up for me between him and Johnny Unitas for most beautiful football autograph. They are both almost artwork.
