Member Challenge - Donate to the Negro League Musem
1 Attachment(s)
On a different thread, an apparent misunderstanding over an eBay transaction has resulted in several members making a $73.83 donation to the Negro League Museum. I am sure this museum, like most others, is suffering financially right now.
Here is the Challenge - donate $73.83 to the Negro League Museum and post your receipt here. Let’s see how much money we can raise. I think we can get at least 100 board members to donate. Here is the link: https://nlbm.com/donations/ I have donated. Join the fun! |

Great idea, Ryan. I'm in.
I'd also recommend that if anyone can spare some time to visit the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, the American Jazz Museum is right there as well, and is a FANTASTIC experience with a form of music that was invented right here in the United States. The two museums together in the same day are an outstanding trip through American history. https://www.net54baseball.com/pictur...ictureid=28909 -Al |
Free 1967 Topps Mickey Mantle
I'll donate a genuine 1967 Topps Mickey Mantle #17 to the next person that sends the Negro League Museum a donation of $73.83.
Condition of the card is poor, like the Museum. small paper loss on the front and writing on the back (++ if your name begins with "G") It'll make your heart feel good to do something for someone else. Just let me know you want the card when you donate. |

Cool idea Ryan. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Happy to contribute to the museum. My Dad and I visited when we were in KC to see a game a few years back. Wish we had more time to spend there that day. Gives me a reason to go back now.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4343fdc42e.jpg

My wife and I passed through KC a few years ago but we just couldn't fit in a visit to the museum and I really regret it. It's on my list of things I need to do once we decide to travel again.

Nineunder71 made a donation and asked that I post it here. Thanks!!
I think we have at least 12- that’s 88 more minimum. Let’s keep’em coming. |
This museum is probably thinking to itself, "What in the world is going on?"

I don’t mess with Twitter anymore but I remember Bob Kendrick, the NBLM director was pretty active there. Someone should send him this thread.

Leon sez every post needs a card so here's one of my favorites from the new Negro League history set with artwork by Graig Kreindler.

Looks like we are 18.... not bad, but well below goal.
Please try to give $73.83 to a good cause (that’s a McDonalds value meal - a mere $6.15/month - over a 12 month period) |

For the price of a 52 Topps PSA 5 Gus Zernial you can donate to the NLBM and help reach our goal of 100 donations.
What would be a better use of your $73.83? |
This thread has received 1500+ views and yet only 22 people have made a donation.
Ok, if you cant do $73.83, make a $5 donation. Literally, a measly $5, For the museum, its better than nothing and it would be great to let them know they are supported by a BASEBALL CARD FORUM BTW, Leon, if you want to reach out to them and let them know about net54, I am sure the members (or at least this member) would be happy to support an advertising banner.... BTW - I have never been to this museum (let alone Kansas City), but I am sure this small establishment is having a very tough time staying afloat during this pandemic and so I feel I should help if I can. Please do the same |
When I lived in KC, I visited the museum many times. It is well worth your time to go and enjoy and learn the history of the Negro Leagues.
|
The hobby (not to mention the world) is a better place because of people like Rhotchkiss!

The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is having a virtual art show and fundraiser the week of October 4th. Lots of artists are creating special pieces to raise money for the museum. Worth checking out!

Jackie Robinson made $32.20 per game.
A donation of $73.84 to the NLBM is equivalent to what Mr. Robinson got paid for 21 innings in 1947. What did you pay for your last Jackie Robinson card? |

Bumping again to post a link to https://nlbmart.com/. It's virtual art show and benefit sale is happening now (10/4-10/10) and features works by more than 100 artists, makers and small business owners.
As Rob was kind enough to note above, our submission to the cause is a restored version of a beautiful panoramic from the Negro League World Series in 1924. We're dontating 100% of profits from this print (gross sale price minus printing and shipping costs) to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. Image below. Pre order here: https://www.prewarprints.com/#4. There are a lot of great folks participating so please check out https://nlbmart.com/ for additional ways to purchase and donate. Thanks for supporting a great cause! https://i.ibb.co/HPZS4XB/nl-brick-wall.jpg |
I did my small part by making a purchase from PreWarPrints.com
I'd love to do more but I've been out of work for such a long time due to my health. But still staying positive and hope to eventually get healthier enough to get back to work and get back to the "Monster" building and the purchasing of so many great cards that I've had to pass on over the last couple years. Don't worry about me though, I'll get there. But for those who can donate, follow Ryan's Member Challenge and thank you to everyone who has and will be donating to a great cause. Also, don't forget to check out Chris's website https://www.prewarprints.com/#4 and help the cause by purchasing a Negro Leagues 100th Anniversary Benefit Print. |
