Advice, Dark Cap Matty

Am thinking of selling this Matty to help fund other needs - the MK qualifier really baffles me in terms of estimating the likely value in an auction

Any advice for expectations? And are there specific auctions that might be best for a card like this one?

Thx

In my opinion, this is not only a MK qualifier, but it's a very ugly one (not the card itself, but the severity of the MK) I dont see this card selling for more than two grades less than a normal PSA 4. It's still a Matty and nice card though! Best of luck....

I agree with Kevin, it has a lot going against it with both the script and the stamp on the reverse. While the front of the card is nice I don't think you're going to get much more than a 2.5 would get you.

While I don't want to endorse any particular auction house, I'll offer the following opinion:

Auction the card. Don't accept (for example) PM offers by people looking to talk down the card, make a low-ball offer, and then try to sell it for significantly more money later. Ironically, when they go to sell it, they'll downplay the mark and hype the good qualities of the card. I've seen it all too often. Again, auction the card. Don't get ripped off.

Thx for the advice... seems like an auction is a good way to see what the real value is. Appreciate the tips.

Maybe the "P" can be linked to some famous collector?

Stranger things have happened

Many thanks to the Net54baseball community for the advice on the Matty - I can see the power of a community of well intentioned folks who are willing to share their experience with a less experienced collector like me

Some funny takes - “ugly?” - but even those tell me something about the card and even this forum.

Thx again - I look forward to learning more together on this forum (though I still am learning the basics of using this site!

Have a great week of collecting....

Jeff

Yes auction would show the true value of the card. But remember that "true value" is 20-28%(depending on tax) more than the hammer price. And you do not see any of that, plus have to pay a consignment fee yourself.

I agree the card would sell for around the same of 2.5 to 3 with the marks.

It sold in Dec 2018 for $500, at that time that was between the price of a 2.5 and 3 most likely. I would assume the same would be true today.

Best of luck whatever you decided.

It's just redundant position marking. I've not heard specific provenance, though I do have a Stahl from the same collection.

If I know when it goes to auction, I'll be bidding. I like the card a lot.
