James Spence Authentication
Just wanting peoples opinion on James Spence authentication. I have a mid-60's Elder PC signed by Jackie Robinson that I would like to have authenticated and James Spence will be on-site at a baseball card show this weekend in Orlando.
|
All I will say is....If you are concerned that it may not pass, JSA is your best option of the "big 3" for getting it authenticated.
|
For vintage baseball autograph I would trust JSA most.

Here you go. Thanks in advance

I believe it’s good Dan and JSA would be fine to choose. I think it looks good in the case it’s currently in as well as they don’t encapsulate items. They will do a full letter LOA. I wouldn’t get the sticker on the item, rather have them place it on the cert letter.

The best I can tell from the photo, I'd say it's probably good as well. Worth sending it in if you want to sell it down the line.
|
If you have zero plans to sell it, I'd trust the general consensus here over JSA/PSA by a long shot.
|
I will have a table at that show. Their LOA's take about 6 weeks to receive. I'm still expecting 3 from the 8/1 show.

The two on-site guys gave it a thumbs up but they said they run premium autographs past 6-8 different authenticators on staff (which I like). Will keep you guys posted

You’re fine. Good choice

Yep- echoing the others. There's no better choice for signature authentication.

I'm surprised that people have forgotten about them certifying the 12 fake signed T206 cards a couple of years ago.
|
I like TPA's to maximize value on my items. I don't think there will ever be a perfect authority.
|
From everything i read and hear about TPAs from those that do use them(to be transparent i do not use any of them for anything but immediate resale), JSA has lost a chunk of its market credibility over the past few years. I am not picking on them because of the t206s or any specific incident. Over the past say 5yrs or so, it seems that there have been many more complaints about bad items getting through them vs the other big 2(PSA & Beckett).
I have no dog in this fight as i only use TPAs when i am going to sell to maximize value. I have never used a TPA to provide any sort of comfort regarding an auto's authenticity. I just dont value their opinion that highly. Some people think they are great and that is perfectly fine. Do what you feel most comfortable with. And i agree with others that the auto appears perfectly fine as far as i can see from the image. Edit: I dont claim to be an expert, but i did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Authentication
I prefer PSA as I've seen a number of what I consider questionable autographs with JSA authentication. PSA certainly isn't perfect but I still think they're the best bet for autograph authentication.
