Arthur K. Miller Art Cards!! GORGEOUS!!
Wondering if anybody else had posted on this (I did a quick search but saw nothing)...
One of my all-time favorite baseball artists (and just simply "artists") is Arthur K. Miller... I wish I could afford his original artwork... but he has just released a limited art-card set of his "Cards that never were," and they're glorious. Everything I love about my favorite amazingly beautiful sets but painted beautifully for the players that deserved the treatment. I believe the only way to order is through the Facebook store... My two favorite things combined: Baseball and art. Check out these beauties... https://scontent-sjc3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...fa&oe=5F7DAC21 https://scontent-sjc3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...10&oe=5F7F2647 |
I agree that Arthur K. Miller is a great artist, and perhaps I am being too literal, but so many of his "cards that never were" fall flat to me because it's obvious why they "never were." Willie Mays on a Cracker Jack? Mike Trout on a 1951 Bowman? Of course these cards never existed! There was no reason that they would have! Conversely, I love the 1948 Leaf Roy Hobbs because when Hobbs would have played matches up with the time frame of when the card would have been produced.
I wish Miller had painted cards like a 1934 Goudey Ruth or a T206 Joe Jackson because there would be a touch of realism involved and those works would have more legitimacy. That's my only beef, and it is a minor one at that. |
These are gorgeous, and he's clearly talented. What's an original go for? Anyone know? I don't collect much these days except Mike Trout game-used stuff, but I do like art!

Depends on the player I've seen them around $500 to over $2k.
I think he may consign directly to auction. Not sure if these sell directly from the artist. I picked up a Gehrig in one of my favorite sets, 48 Leaf. Hey it had Ruth, why not Gehrig. Also have another Miller, Ruth painting. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...9b048aa414.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4fbf889cac.jpg Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |

Cheers! It's a wonderful use of skill and imagination. |
Clearly you are enthralled with these despite their shortcomings. That's wonderful. Enjoy!

Miller's work is great.
I have signed #'d litho's of Matty & WaJo in my office. Saw the Johnson original at an art gallery in Camden Yards Fantastic piece, about 4' tall & too rich for my blood. Took a picture of my wife next to it, so have the picture framed w/ the litho https://i.pinimg.com/564x/a6/b0/75/a...13e2038b5d.jpg |

Much in the same way you're probably upset that The Simpsons characters are a sporting a brand of skin color unseen on human beings. If that's your beef, you're missing the point. Cheers! |
