Signed Van Oeyen photos
This 1908 Van Oeyen photo of Elmer Steele is a recent pickup. I believe it originated from Steele's estate in the early 2000's. Signed by Van Oeyen (L. Van Oeyen / Cleveland O. / 09), it must have been a presentation piece from Van Oeyen to Steele. The photo also has an early Van Oeyen stamp on the reverse.
Anyone else have photos signed by Van Oeyen? Looking around I can find only two others similarly signed on the front, a Cobb and a Lajoie. The writing in blue ink is Steele's, probably late in life. The 'Hot Springs' notation would be a mis-remembering as the photo looks almost certainly to have been taken at League Park, Cleveland. https://i.ibb.co/BcQt4dn/Steele-VO-sm.jpg |
I've never seen one, but have to say that you have an absolutely terrific photo there.

Van Oeyen
I have Nig Clarke, it just says "Van Oeyen" and has the date below. It was written on an angle, like yours. It's the only other Van Oeyen I have seen with his ID on the front. I just assumed mine is a stamp, however as it is too perfect.

Here's a detail from the Steele photo. Definitely live ink.
