RIP HOF Tom Seaver
1 Attachment(s)
I'm sad to report that HOF'er Tom Seaver's family announced that he passed away on Monday, August 31st at age 75.
He won 311 games, helped lead the 1969 Miracle Mets to a World Series Championship and hurled a no-hitter against the St. Louis Cardinals on June 16th, 1978. Baseball historians commonly believe that Tom Seaver ranks in the Top 10 ML starting pitchers of all-time. When he was inducted into the HOF in 1992, his 1st ballot vote percentage was one of the highest ever (98.8%). On a personal note, Seaver was one of my favorite pitchers to watch on the mound. A consummate professional, whose mental approach and preparation were legendary and he never settled... He will be dearly missed by baseball fans everywhere. RIP Tom Terrific!! https://www.si.com/mlb/2020/09/03/to...r-mets-dies-75 |
Ugh. This kills me. He was my favorite Met growing up.

Sad news. RIP, Tom Seaver.

Very sad news. Got a chance to talk with him a little bit in 2008...a very nice man.

There are several players in the HOF who one can question whether they are indeed hall worthy. Tom Seaver was a no doubter. By anyone standards, Tom Teriffic deserves to be mentioned with the greatest who ever played the game.

He was a great player and was able to at least see him play in the early 1980s
Baseball History!!! Thanks Mr. Seaver Jimmy |
He was a very nice guy when I met him at show in the 90s:

Sad news indeed.
Here is the scorecard to go with your signed no hitter ticket... I posted scans of the scorecard (and accompanying items) from his "Imperfect Game" on the main page Seaver thread. Doug |
Back in July of '85 I took in a Saturday afternoon White Sox/Orioles game at Memorial Stadium with Seaver pitching for the Sox.
I took some pre-game photos of him warming up in the Bullpen and then one of him pitching to Cal Ripken Jr. Looking at that picture now, I can see that it now has four Hall of Famers in it... RIP Tom https://i.imgur.com/d0E1zpN.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/NETo49Q.jpg |

Man, we are getting old.
I remember like yesterday, seeing pictures of Tom and Nancy Seaver. A great looking couple of kids, dubbed “the face of youth” by the media at the time. Where does the time go? One of the true greats. RIP Mr. Seaver |

RIP Tom Terrific. His 86 jersey is one of the few I just can't sell.

I was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Seaver about 10 years ago. I loved him as a kid unless he was pitching against the Pirates. I spent about 45 minutes with him. He graciously signed these two items for me. I found him to be both friendly and kind. He was exactly as I had imagined him to be as an 11 year old. RIP Tom Terrific.

I met him in 90's and had him personalize a ball to me. What struck me about him was that he was just a regular guy around fans. He would talk about anything with you. No pretence like today's players.
