Willie McCovey and SF Giants News Articles going back 60 years
 

So, a friend of mine has been a huge SF Giants fan for over 50 years and he has collected about every newspaper and magazine article with Willie McCovey in it going back over 60 years. He was going to throw the collection away and I told him to hold off and let me see if there are any fans or collectors out there who might want these magazines and newspapers.

HUGE shout out to CalChiefsFan!!!!!

As I said, my Bay Area connection was unable to pick this stuff up. I figured, “Oh well, I hope it finds a good home.” When I told CCF, he told me he’d just ship it all to me on his dime.

Yesterday, a 40 lb. (at least) box arrived on my doorstep. Man, what a treasure trove! 30 years of McCovey related newspapers, Sporting News, etc. 1959-1990. Papers from SF, Pittsburgh, Mobile (Willie’s hometown), NY, Cincy, Japan and more. As a surprise, CCF and the 84 year old curator of this stuff threw in a pair of McCovey’s cleats and a repro HOF plaque.

I was blown away! I spent hours yesterday, getting it in chronological order and putting complete papers put back together. I’ll be reading all weekend. Thanks again to CCF and Willie’s buddy of 60 years! Good people still exist! :D
