Anyone have any current news where they stand with everything?

Polls indicate that many swing states in the central part of the US that went red in 2016 may be swinging blue.

Polls have an ulterior motive. It is NOT to give an accurate rendering of the way people are planning to vote. It is to make people think that their candidate is so far behind, why even bother to vote. Akin of telling people to leave the stadium before the game is finished. There is NO WAY the person behind can catch up.

I studied polling in school. I don't believe it's driven by agenda at all. Bottom line: who picks up their LANDLINE when it rings? And spends time talking to some anonymous pollster? Who even has a landline at this point? Most people won't bother picking up a line now they don't recognize. And the folks that will are probably not representative of the pop at large. Not sure my kids have ever seen a landline.

As a poli-sci major I studied both polling and statistics. I think it depends on the pollster. obviously there are polls with agendas, but those typically shouldn't be reported in the media.

I still have a landline. I love it. Way better reception....But if I didn't work from home I am not sure I would have it....

We haven't had a landline since the late 1990s (1998?) and don't miss it. I'm not sure that pollsters are limited to landlines either these days. I generally don't even answer unrecognized numbers on the cell, unless I'm expecting a call/contact from someone. If it's important, they'll leave a message.

Also for those not aware on cell phones, if you get a call from the same exchange that you don't recognize, it is likely a spoofed number calling. Meaning that if your number is 123-456-7890 and you get an incoming call from 123-456-0987 and that is not a known number to you, it is likely that the caller is spoofing the phone number to try and scam you or sell you something. OR, it is someone calling you back because YOUR number was spoofed to them and they are just 'returning your call'.

I think that many of the central states are seeing a rise in Covid-19 cases.

Your right there are polls that are fair, but there are more that are out there with agendas. Unfortunately, there are media outlets that will use those, or even those within the media themselves with agendas.

There is also the way they ask questions. Ask 100 people a question one way, then ask 100 people the same thing changing a few words and you will get a different result.

Reminds me of one of my favorite Monty Python bits - the "Election Night Special" sketch:
