Does anyone recognize either signature?

I got these in 2 different lots on ebay years back. I was able to determine all signatures except these two. I then put them away and forgot about them until digging them up recently.
The one with tape was from a lot of mostly 50s players. I think most were NL teams. The one from the program was, if I recall, mostly players from the 30s. I was almost ready to just toss them before, because I struck out on the ID and neither are very attractive. This is one last shot at figuring out who they are before they are just blindly listed on ebay as mystery signatures and see what happens. |
I'm thinking the one with the tape might be Vern Stephens.

I'd say you nailed that within minutes! Nice job and thank you. Now I feel dumb that I could not see it.

I recall that both Pepper Martin and Jim Bottomley were included in the lot, also on the same type of program backing. I looked at the teams overlapping the two and thought maybe Bill Shedel might have been a possibility, but I don't see it in mine, especially compared to other signatures online for him. I am thinking 30s Cardinal or possibly an opponent is the target grouping, but I could be off. Hoping someone sees what I don't.

Bill Cissell. His premature death in 1949 at age 45 was preceded by tragedy after setback. He was clearly a very willing signer, as he was around for a while and can be procured with not too much difficulty compared to some of his contemporaries who lived similarly short lives.

I just looked up a few known Bill Cissell autographs online and would agree with Mr. Cox that the other signature is definitely Bill Cissell.

Thank you guys. I am still amazed at how fast some of these IDs are provided, and often with no point of reference to work with. The collective knowledge of a community is a powerful tool!
