1989 Topps Traded Tiffany
Are the Tiffany Topps Traded cards mixed in with the Traded sets (see below) or are they in their own set box?

They were in their own box, more elaborate, and sealed.

They were always called "Limited Edition" on the set box, and usually with gold foil wording on the box. "Tiffany" was just a nickname given to them as they were the "high end" version of the set. The yearly box colors for the limited set were:
1984 - red 1985 - blue 1986 - brown 1987 - purple 1988 - green 1989 - blue 1990 - red 1991 - blue |
Thanks everyone! I know what to look for now!

I've never owned a Topps Tiffany card. Always considered them as 'super-premium' cards. Does anyone remember if these were a special order thru a hobby shop or were they released in retail too?
|
I have a run of the base and traded sets (84-91) Still in sealed boxes. Never seen them. I think most boxes went to dealers and shops but some could be ordered from Topps through hobby publications. Fritsch used to sell them through his catalog.

I can't be sure but from my recollections back then, it was usually the bigger dealers who dealt directly with Topps who I would see have them. They would have like 10-100 cases of the regular product at a show and they had like one case of the Tiffanies.
The raw cards out from the set are more glossy so you can tell them apart, just like the Fleer Glossy's that came out of the tin sets they did. |
I had a card shop in the late 80s. It was small, but we could get Tiffany's through our distributor. Regular Traded came in set form, and there were no Tiffanys in them.

In hand the differences are apparent. Not sure about scans

I think on the regular traded there are 2 asterisks on the bottom of the back, but they aren't there for tiffany.

Tiffany. The regular set is a white stock on back as well.
