Hank Aaron Piece of History Autographed Bat Card
1 Attachment(s)
Does anybody know the value of this card? I tried looking but only saw it as a set.

I don't know the exact value. But those early UD Piece of History cards carry significant value. They were and still are fairly popular since the relic is supposed to actually match the person pictured. I'd imagine with the autograph you would see an additional premium. I wouldn't expect it under $300 if I saw it locally.

Great card! I know that for many people who collect vintage game-used items, the idea of cutting up a game-used bat from Hank Aaron makes people cringe (and I totally get it) but it also introduced many younger collectors to the all-time greats.
The 1999 set was the first to include game-used pieces from great players from the past. The set (as can be seen) focused on the 500 home run club. The regular set was limited to 250 copies, and included a sliver of game-used bat from each of the members of the 500 home run club. They also created rarer, signed copies of the cards. For the living players, they limited the cards to the players' jersey number. So Aaron was 44. Mays 24. Killebrew 3 etc. For deceased players they clipped an autograph from an old document and embedded it in the card. Those were more limited than the jersey number. They don't sell often enough for there to be a definitive or clear price, but they do fall into a range. I haven't seen one sell in quite some time but I think $1000-$1500 is probably a safe range (assuming it is in good condition. If you were looking to move it quickly, I know I would be a buyer at the bottom end of that range, but I imagine you could probably get more if you took your time. Hope this helps. edit: 2 other things: 1) I would take it out of that case. I can't tell for sure from the picture but some of that style case put too much pressure on the card and can damage them (I'd check on that) 2) The copies of these that were autographed before being inserted into packs are noted as autographed in the text on the back. This looks spot on from the front, but worth confirming on the back |
