SCP Auctions

What has been the board's collective experience with SCP. I won two items at its spring auction at just under $2000. Processing seeming to take undue time. That aside, the item was unable to be delivered because someone at SCP did not correctly address the package as identified in the default delivery address note in my account. I haven't purchased anything from SCP for a number of years though I cannot remember why. Is this a common occurrence, or is it a one off? Thanks for your comments. It has not been pleasant.

I haven't had any problems with them

TMKenKen 05-21-2020 03:36 PM

Thanks!

Not the fastest but no issues and no real delays

They're usually pretty easy to deal with. I do wish all AH's would come into the 21st century and take Zelle, credit card or at least paypal. Mailing a check feels like I'm stuck in the 1980's.

The reason many auctions don't take paypal or CC is because you can't reverse payment on a check once it has cleared.

I don't know if it's "Many". I guess the 75% of AH's that do take that type of payment are taking a risk. Many Ah's also don't wait 10 days for the check to clear before sending the items, there's a risk there too. I think AH's don't take CC / PP is they don't want to deal with the fees and all that entails.

SCP is absolutely solid....

As a very small company I have to tell you there has been a purchase or two that felt odd that I sweat the worry of a charge-back for a while. I've had one and the person who initiated it didn't recognize the charge (Square doesn't have a category for auctions or sports collectibles so I appear as a Toy Store on billing notices) he immediately canceled the charge-back. I know in the general online auction business it is a significant problem.

They can remember when the Dead Sea was only sick.... They been around for a long time

Only good experiences here.

I have always gotten what I've won from SCP. Granted, it has been awhile since I won anything from them. But they don't have any glaring issues that stand out.

SCP auctions

VERY reliable and efficient auction house that consistently offers quality lots with great service. If there are any questions or issues, they do answer their phone courteously and without problems...Highly recommended!

They've been around for 30+ years, always solid. I've sold and bought thru them many times.

Follow-Up

Just to follow-up on my inquiry. SCP reached out I three separate emails, acknowledging that it had created shipping issues by not fully addressing the package. While by that time I had already been in contact with the shipper and had the error rectified, the fact that they responded to me fairly quickly and accepting responsibility in writing supports the posters above. Stuff happens, admissions are the measure of a reliable group.

Thanks to all for your response!

Brendan Wells had a shitty attitude during our consignment negotiation 4 years ago. We were texting back and fourth and when he didn't like my cash advance and consignment commission terms his last text was "No worries. We just received a different ××××××××× anyways. No reserve and 10%. Good deal for us." Smells greedy to me.

perezfan 05-22-2020 01:42 PM

Dan Imler was easy/great to work with, in terms of consignments. Never an issue with regard to item acceptance, consignment rates, or payment terms. But I think Dan has moved on, and I have not used SCP since Dan left.

I'm pretty sure someone here would know where he is now.

jerseygary 05-22-2020 02:25 PM

I've known Dan and Brendan for a few years now, and I've always found them great to deal with. Dan has started his own high-end sports collectibles investment company called Legacy Sports Collections. You can contact him through his website: https://www.legacysc.com/

perezfan 05-22-2020 06:34 PM

Thank you Gary!

DCDSports 05-22-2020 07:21 PM

I've known the SCP crew long long time. Done many deals and never had any issues. They'll even hand deliver some stuff!

Good people. Solid company. They do real well with player collections, especially.
