A new 1963 Post variation?
 

Did I discover a new variation? I was checking my 1963 Post cards for Jellos and noticed something with #175 Don Landrum. I have two and one of them seems to have a larger gap between his name and team name.

I googled and could find no mention of any variations with this card (other than a uncorrected error where the player is actually Bob Will). I checked eBay and out of 35 current and sold auctions, 30 have a gap and 5 do not. Is anybody else aware of this?

Are you sure the top one is not a Jello? You conveniently hid the bottom red line and the front card is trimmed so we don't know how long the cards are compared to each other.
But you're right, it does look like a Post variation.

It’s legit, there are a couple of small gap ones on WorthPoint.

In my experience, it seems nearly every Post card from 61-63 has some sort of variance depending on which product package it was initially distributed on. Fellow board members Ken Marks and Dan Mabey know each of these variations backwards and forwards....below is an excerpt from a message Ken shared with me a few years back in regards to the number if unique cards in the 61-63 Post sets:

"1962 Post Baseball is by far the toughest set to complete a master set. To be exact, I believe (and think Dan concurs there are 539 different cards (Dan's book originally identified 567 versions, but believe I have convinced him the four six-card panels he shows as Sugar Coated Corn Flakes small boxes do not exist). In the 1961 master set, there are 355 box cards and another 180 company cards in a master set (company cards very easy to tell apart). For 1963 there are 372 different variations of cards. Not saying easy to put together, but the 61 and 63 master sets are much more easy to put together in terms of telling which card might be which."


Obviously a lot of variations within these Post Cereal sets. With the 61 "company" cards, there were 10 cards issued for each of the 16 teams....

Here's a better photo. I thought the bottom one was a jello because it was shorter but the stars line up and the left stat line is extended so they are both Posts, one is just trimmed more.

All of the cards on COMC that are listed as 1963 Jell-O Don Landrum are actually 1963 Post Don Landrum, the Jell-O card has the shorter line on each side of the stats like in the scan, the ones listed as Jell-O on COMC have the longer line that extends further out past the stats. ETA: Apparently someone at COMC was fooled by the unknown variation and believed that the 1963 Post Don Landrum cards with the larger gap are 1963 Jell-O and the 1963 Post Don Landrum with the smaller gap are 1963 Post because that is how they have them listed.

They should all be fixed now. I left 2 cards in the Jello area for Landrum as the print was obviously smaller.

The photo on the Jello card also extends farther to the right where it is just above the "B" in batting While the Post Cereal card the photo ends above the "E" in League.

There are many subtle differences in cropping etc. for these cards depending on which cereal box they were issued on.

In this case Landrum was on a 10 oz. Rice Krinkles box and a 9 oz. Sugar Crisp box.

The card with his team name closer to his name is off of a Rice Krinkles box while the other is from the Sugar Crisp box
