Question About Card for Player on 1904 Philadelphia Athletics
Hi, new member here - longtime member on Blowout Forums and when I asked this question there I was referred to this site.
I am interested to know whether (or how to best find out) if there was ever a card made depicting Louis R. Bruce, who played one season for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1904. Some background information on Bruce from the UPenn Archives: https://archives.upenn.edu/exhibits/.../louis-r-bruce Thanks in advance for any help! |

No is your answer but I found this:

Debuted June 22, 1904, for the Philadelphia Athletics Penn Teams: not on any varsity baseball team; captain of his class baseball teams Position: outfielder/pitcher/second-baseman/third-baseman, bats left-handed and throws right-handed Attachment 394274 |
Sorry....
I should have clicked your link!
lol No cards I believe, sorry! Peace, Mike |
Hey, thanks, I appreciate it. Is there some sort of database that folks use to search for these early cards?

Fan Craze was 1904, but Bruce is not in that one. I can't think of any other 1904 issues. I doubt he has a card. If he does, this is the right place to ask...Rob

Bruce's manager had a card in 1904. I would search "Philadelphia 1904" or "Connie Mack 1904" in the ebay sports section from time to time as well as the big auctions that come up. He could be found in an A's team photo from 1904. (not my card)

was he a relative? Always like seeing the relatives on here of old players. Playing in 1904 was abad year as far as baseball cards is concerned. he just missed the Breisch Williams set of '03 and the Alleghany card set of '04 and not a lot in 04 and 05. I would bet with a LOT of searching over a few years a type 1 photo might pop up of either him or his team. If he played in the minors after there would be even more chance for a type 1 photo

Is this one from 1904? I don't have any Fan Craze cards. I suppose one could mount an argument that this card depicts Bruce...

hmm, no. I don’t think the ears match 🙂

There is one very fine photographic image (not a card) of Bruce in an Athletics uniform. (I don't own this or the Sporting Boiler page in the previous post.)

Dr. James Beckett Baseball Card Checklist......
....Volume or edition number 5 lists Louis Bruce (Lou) and goes on to state
"No Cards". This would help to confirm what other board members concluded. But don't give up the "Hunt". |
