Fake Jordan signed 86 Fleer

I purchased this card on eBay last week and after it arrived I realized the SGC label was actually a photocopy of an SGC label and the slab had been cracked open and resealed. The Upper Deck hologram and certificate appear authentic, so I assume it is an authentic autograph on a counterfeit card.

I’m posting here because I have returned the card for a refund and I expect the seller will relist the card on eBay. He first refused to grant a refund because “there’s no way he can guarantee that I will return the same card to him.”

Just a fair warning to anyone who might be interested. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1986-1987-M...kAAOSwondefmnl

Sorry this happened to you.

I don't understand why SGC would make the switch to such a basic, easily duplicated flip. It seems like a huge step backwards. At least put a hologram on there.

Oddly enough they do have a hologram, but it’s attached to the slab behind the label. This one almost fooled me. If I hadn’t noticed the pixelation on the label I would have probably put it in the safe and not thought twice about it. Once I looked at it closer it was obvious it had been cracked and resealed and then I checked the cert number on the SGC site and it isn’t even a valid number.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. A hologram on the front would be a great idea.

I'm surprised they didn't at least use a valid cert number.

Sadly, it's not a good forgery, either. Extremely heavy, slow, deliberate and shaky. The "M" is out to lunch, and it continues to fall apart from there. Also, the UD hologram applied to the back of the card look like a clear peel. I didn't bother to examine the card itself, just the signature. Is the card even legitimate?

Thanks for the input. I was working under the assumption that the signature was authentic and the card itself was a counterfeit. The card itself is not authentic, but it’s one of the best counterfeits I’ve seen. The coloring on the back and the lack of sharpness on the font is the giveaway. If the signature is also a forgery then this is truly an elaborate scam as the Upper Deck hologram and COA are well executed.

That card is terrible. The borders are way too thin. Front and back.

Everything Jordan-related is a real pain, isn't it?!

As a matter of volume, I've dealt with far more fake Mantles and Alis, but I can't really think of another post-war athlete whose ratio of forgeries vs. authentic autographs is as staggeringly high as Jordan. Most everything submitted to TPAs is fake. While educated collectors realize that the blanket statement of "99% of all autographs are fake" is laughable and ignorant, it might just nearly apply to Jordan!

Most everything submitted to TPAs is fake.

Contrary to this, I submitted a signed rookie jersey to PSA that they deemed fake. It is 100% authentic and was signed in front of me. My uncle did some bodyguard work for him over the years and I was able to have him sign about 20 pieces. The few others that I did send send to PSA all passed (except the jersey). So in conclusion, they get it wrong both ways...

Funny story. I gave my uncle a Jordan rookie to have signed. I put it in a plastic case. The next day my uncle brought it back to me (along with like 5 other things) I was so excited. Long story short, Jordan signed the case, not the card. :( I sold it on here about a year or 2 ago for $300...
