Interesting what people like and why
 

I get asked a fair amount of times "what do you suppose is the attraction to Banty Red cards? Is it the vintage feel, artwork, selection, etc.

This week I was making a custom card for a fellow collector. First, it's kind of funny that some guys are secretive about purchasing or liking an art card...like a guy hiding that he prefers sushi to beef--I digress--

Anyway, this collector noted: "totally love the image and colors but I want it to look poorly printed like a '48-- but not ugly. Is that possible"

That's exactly what I aim for with every card; to make them look pretty BUT stay in period (within reason). I'm actually curious which of these cards most of you would like to own more (I understand that most here have zero interest in actually owning one). This is just for collector insight to the cards themselves--spruced up or more authentic.

Lol. Yes. Thank you. Fact is, his response was completely ignorant. Which is odd when one considers the question he was asked was based on opinion.
To respond to such a simple inquiry with ignorance is not easy to do.
99.9% of the population would either 1. Not reply or 2. reply to the question
"Bob" managed to prove he has never handled 1. Broders or 2. Banty Red
To assert they are similar is positively, empirically ridiculous.

I like the spruced up one a little better considering they are custom cards to begin with. Why not have them look nice?

Wow, you really enjoy tossing around the insults. I think your cards look like crap, and I think you're a jerk for launching on a guy who's just trying to participate in what he thought was a friendly thread.

I had to look up the term "Broders" Here are 2 examples from the Father and son Broder family...I think these are very cool, although I would not buy them because they don't really fit my collection. I like the banty red cards also. If you had one of current players, like George Springer next to a trash can or Mike Trout on a fishing trip, I would probably buy it. I would rather not have a card that is distressed, but I know many people like that look...Rob

Custom cards depicting players that never had a card makes some sense....fills in a team roster type collection. No reason to make it old - that's not it's purpose...

First time I had ever heard the term Broders was a few days and never saw one before today. The idea that those crude Broder cards are anyway akin in artistic merit or anything else to the card at the top of the thread is pretty absurd.

I haven't heard Broders used in a very long time. It was used a lot in the mid-late 80's.

I prefer Card A

As a set builder, I am generally ambivalent about art cards. But, I do have two player collections and have picked up a few art cards for those collections.

While the Banty Reds tend to sell for more than I am willing to pay for an art card, I did manage to snag one for my Johnny Antonelli collection. It is really well done. Nice thick stock and good color and design.

I also have a few Edward Vela art cards in my Paul Blair collection. They aren't as well done as the Banty Reds, but are still attractive cards and I am happy to have them.

And you make unlicensed cards bro.

Tell you what "Phil". I know plenty about Broders. And I stopped selling them shortly after I started when a very young kid asked me "what are my cards worth mister". I pulled them all out of my inventory and tossed them, because the kid had a point. They are worthless as described in the old SCD price guides. Yours are more throwback, but still a pile of garbage. You need to ask yourself, what are my cards worth and think about it. In fact they may have a certain esoteric slot for some, but they look like fake stuff to me. If you can't handle it don't use any more references to me "Phil".
