Babe Comes Home
How much do you think it would be worth if someone uncovered a copy of the movie in good condition?
No I don't have one (I wish), but have always loved the various cards and other collectibles associated with the movie. Hard to believe there isn't a copy of this somewhere. I mean it was freakin' Babe Ruth. Someone had to have appreciated the importance of it. |
Interesting, I never knew the film considered lost until your post. Even if a copy was miraculously found I think most nitrate film stock is past the point of being viewable no?

Babe Comes Home
Babe Ruth movies and this one in particular has always been kind of a niche collecting interest of mine. Have some photos, handbills, and newspaper ads. The funkiest piece though is this enclosed antique leather suitcase with what appears to be about a 9 X 12 inch hand painted ad for the movie. It`s in decent shape and makes a nice addition to my Ruth collection. Have seen one other like it that sold in an auction in New Jersey years ago. And yes, as far as the movie goes there are no original copies known to exist.

I did not realize the movie was lost as well. I have posted this poster in a previous thread but it seems like a good opportunity to show it again.

Here is a handbill that describes the movie.

I didn't know that was a lost film.
If one is ever found, it's a coin toss as to it being viewable. Some stuff from the 20's is in horrible condition, and requires a professional just to get it so some stills can be taken. I've also had film from then that was just fine. To me the craziest was that some late 1800's films from Edison were found in a closet of an un-airconditioned house in Texas, and were in great condition. Odd how sometimes the stuff that's not taken care of at all ends up surviving just fine. Even if it's really bad, if there's enough money whatever is found can be restored. At least one of the series of shorts Ruth was in is available, probably the others as well. I have one, probably "Just Pals" on 16mm film. Film collectors pretty much didn't place much value on sports films until recently. I used to pick up some nice ones, but now even random HS football games are more than I want to pay. |
Babe Comes Home
Some really great pieces out there fellas, Bob for me the advertising poster is one of the nicest items ever on the "54". Here`s a couple more funky B C Home additions, a baseball sized ticket and a nice type 1 photo depicting a scene from the movie.

It is not film, but there is a book based upon Ruth’s next film, called Speedy, 1928 starring Harold Lloyd. The book has photographs, some of which include Ruth. In this case, the Grosset and Dunlap printing is the first edition, not a reprint.
