Kashin Publication Premium
Question: Bought a graded Hornsby Kashin Publication Premium, but cant find it any information on it anywhere. Does anyone else have one? or know any info on them?
Bob |
Definitely not common, but the Kashin premiums are out there. Most talk seems to focus around the Ruth for obvious reasons. They are often referred to as R316 5x7 photos. Some players are mistaken for W554, but they are different. Here's an old thread with some more: https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=160709

Premium
It is strange that they aren't listed in the Standard Catalog.

I have the 2011 Standard Catalog and the 2011 Vintage Standard Catalog. Both have the same info. Maybe it is time for me to purchase a new Standard Catalog. :) My 2011 is really beat up because I use it constantly, so I did get my money's worth from it. |

I appreciate all of the information that you guys gave! As always, this board is a wealth of knowledge.
Thrilled to have the Hornsby, and a Simmons on a regular Kashin. Attachment 389902 Bob |
R316 premiums
Hi Bob,
I know a fair bit about this issue - though not everything. What do you want to know? Feel free to email me- Tim |
I sold my Foxx rookie a few months back (along with most of my rookie HOF collection) to try to get money together for a house downpayment. It was very cool, and wonder if I'll ever find another one.

Lefty Grove....
1 Attachment(s)
Here is the Lefty Grove R316 premium. Bought it from a dealer in NY named Bob many years ago. (I can't remember his last name at the moment, but Bob died about 10 years ago.) He listed it for sale in the SCD as a large variation of the R316. I guess it wasn't in the catalog at that point. I seem to remember paying $75 for it at the time. I consider that a bargain, given that I haven't seen another since. (Although I am sure that other Grove's exist.)

Funny, several years ago picked up a Hack Wilson premium....
And thought it was just a regular R316. Still learning after all these years. Lol Can’t seem to post a scan. :/ |

To be honest, I couldn't find them in the SCD Catalog and I picked up a Hornsby in an auction for the minimum, because I thought it was cool, but had no idea regarding value, or even if they were listed somewhere. Thanks to most of the guys here, they've answered most of those questions....do they have a premium when it comes to price? |
Regular Kashins vs. R316 5"x7" premiums
The difference in prices for the two shown in my 2013 Standard Catalog of Vintage Baseball Cards are interesting...
A regular Kashin common (pgs. 227-8) is listed at $12 in VG, $20 in EX, and $40 in NM. A 5"x7" Premium common (pgs. 346-7) is listed at $15 in VG, 25 in EX, and $50 in NM. To me, the prices for the premiums should be a lot higher due to their scarcity when compared to the regular Kashin issue. Maybe things have changed in the last 7 years? (BTW, the Hornsby premium is only listed at $25 in VG, $45 in EX, and $90 in NM, while the regular Kashin Hornsby is listed at $50 in VG, $85 in EX, and $175 in NM.)   |

Here's the one that Leon used to own, crossed to PSA. And a Gehrig also.

premium values
Anybody who wants to sell me 5x7 premiums at the prices below, I've got cash ready for ya!
Seriously, I would say the premiums generally go for 3x4 times those prices now, depending on player. ' The Hornsby listing you quote is just a flat-out error, even in 2013. Quote:

Kashins premiums
Charles Conlon seems to be the source for these images. His stamped/signed prototypes turn up in auctions. Quite often the art department messed with them by coloring in the eyes, that sort of thing. RMY has one in his current auction.
