Trivia with a T205 Prize

Haven't done a give-away in a long time. There will be a prize for EVERY different correct answer in the next 24 hours (limit one answer per person)

I can only think of one Major League player who has 200 more Home Runs than Doubles for his career. Can you name one?

Jim65 02-05-2020 02:04 PM

Dave Kingman?

That's the one I thought of first. There are more than I thought there would be. I think he's got to be the lowest home run total to do it though.

scooter729 02-05-2020 02:08 PM

Harmon Killebrew - I'm going with big slow sluggers who wouldn't leg out a bunch of doubles

Mark17 02-05-2020 02:11 PM

Killebrew

Aquarian Sports Cards 02-05-2020 02:12 PM

Fun follow-up for bragging rights only: What player whose career doubles outpace his career home runs, has the most home runs?

Still accepting answers to the original question for prizes, but it's easier than I was thinking it would be to just look it up. :P

Stan Musial?

nebboy 02-05-2020 02:31 PM

Babe Ruth is an easy one

714 HRs ----- 506 doubles

buymycards 02-05-2020 02:32 PM

Sosa and Ruth

Sammy Sosa and Babe Ruth.

I cheated and went to the ESPN Career Stats page.

Ruth was actually a surprise to me.

Sosa is good, though you nearly disqualified yourself by guessing two names! Luckily someone had already guessed Ruth!

No, someone had significantly more HR's than Musial and STILL managed to hit more doubles than HR's

I'll give someone else a chance to answer. I looked it up and really was not surprised at the correct answer.

Yup. I'll come up with some sort of prize for this answer too, what the heck. Even if you do think Corey Dickerson is a great player :)

Everyone who was acknowledged as a correct answer please email your contact info to info@birminghamauctioneers.com so I can send your prizes. I also ask that you post a picture of them to the thread when you get them!

buymycards 02-05-2020 03:22 PM

Disqualified

I should be disqualified anyway for using ESPN.:)

packs 02-05-2020 03:23 PM

Oh come on, Dickerson put up a higher OPS+ in half a season last year than Pujols has in the last 7 years. Give the guy his due!

Aquarian Sports Cards 02-05-2020 03:53 PM

OPS plus is a percentage type statistic that is EASIER to put up a higher number over a lesser amount of plate appearances AND you picked a guy who has been pretty well washed up for the last 8 years to compare CD to lol. But you still get a prize :P

Aquarian Sports Cards 02-05-2020 03:59 PM

Oh honorable mention to Mickey Mantle who shockingly only came up a few Home runs short (or a few doubles too many) to qualify!

howard38 02-05-2020 04:23 PM

.

insidethewrapper 02-05-2020 04:41 PM

Miguel Cabrera has 100 more 2b's than Hr's ( 577 vs 477 )

I would have bet on Yaz...and I'd have lost

Fred 02-05-2020 05:20 PM

Slammin Sammy Sosa

Once you get under 500 Homeruns there are a lot of guys with more doubles than HR's.

Jcosta19 02-05-2020 06:04 PM

Mark McGwire

Edited - just saw he was already listed

Special shout out for my hometown hero George Brett who is the ONLY HoFR with at least 600 doubles, 100 triples, 300 homers, and 200 stolen bases. 3000+ hits to boot and +.300 lifetime hitter AND never struck out more than 75 times in a season ( career with more walks than strikeouts ). To add, batting titles in 3 different decades.

Far cry from what we see ball players doing today.

maddux31 02-05-2020 07:24 PM

Rickey Henderson, right behind George Brett in that department

297 HRs vs 510 doubles

NiceDocter 02-05-2020 10:46 PM

guess

Frank Howard?

Ronnie73 02-06-2020 12:46 AM

I'm pretty sure that's all of them. What an amazing small group of players that achieved this difficult combination.

Bpm0014 02-06-2020 07:21 AM

It's always tough to do trivia via computer because I just feel like everyone looks up the answers anyway...

Georj 02-06-2020 08:50 AM

Barry Bonds

Aquarian Sports Cards 02-06-2020 08:53 AM

I try and pick things that are harder to look up. This sounded good until I realized you could just go to the all time home run chart and work your way down.

bnorth 02-06-2020 09:03 AM

On the opposite end Mr Ty Cobb had 675 more doubles than HRs. My all time favorite player had 460 more doubles than HRs. Just shows how overrated HRs are.:D

675 is exactly the same differential as his friend Speaker. Spoke also had 105 more triples than homers.

Hi, just wondering if I should still be checking my mail. You don't really owe me anything, just curious.

Thanks for posting Tim, it reminded me how horrible I've been at getting pries out. If you have not received your prize and I acknowledged in the thread that you were a winner. PLEASE message me and remind me!
