Favorite Brooks Robinson Card 1964-1970
So the first poll closed with the 1957 winning easily and the 1960 coming in 2nd. The new poll will be for the years 1964-1970 and Mark will be posting pics of the cards when he gets a chance. Would also like to hear what you like about specific cards and what you dislike.

The easy choice for me would be the 1967, but today I went with the 1970. I like the overall clean look, nice shot of Brooks in his road uniform and my favorite hat style clearly visible. I’ve never liked the 68 and not real fond of the 65 either. The 66 and 69 are not bad. The 64 leaves me with a neutral feeling as I neither particularly like or dislike.

1967 Topps
Well, unlike Clint, I like them ALL... Sometimes taste is something we don't all have
I picked the 1967 since I LOVE everything about the card. Just iconic. Now it's still tough for me since "today" the 1970 is a very very close 2nd and I almost went with this example. I know some people don't like the grey borders, but I do. Such a great shot of Brooks used by Topps where you can see the 1969 patch, part of the B. ROBINSON on his back, the #5, and the pose is just great. On another day I may of picked the others. Who knows when you like "everything" about ALL the cards... |
I am for the 67 too.Would be shocked if it doesn’t win !
|
Mark that was cold.😂

I picked the '65 just because you actually see his personality coming out in the photo. Also like the colors.
A close second is the '67 and I'd probably like it the best if all of his cards from '66 - '70 weren't basically the same pose. C'mon Topps, put some leather on that man's hand and show us what he can do with it! |

'67 for me as well.
Seeing them all together drives home how similar they were over the late 60s. Topps even went back to Spring Training of 1965 or 1966 for the photo on the '69 version. |
I picked the 67 as well. I like the happy pose and the colors on the card. It's just a really well done composition and classic looking card.

Man, not even close at this point.

1965. There's something very Harrison Ford/Han Solo-ish about that grin. Makes me wonder what the joke is.

Due to the players union telling the players to not pose for pictures to try to negotiate a better agreement, Topps had to use old pictures for the 1968 set and part of the 1969 set. More info here: https://sabrbaseballcards.blog/2017/...cott-of-topps/ |
Clint,
Looks like we have a clear winner... |
Yes we do. I’m going to give it through the weekend and will have a reminder Saturday. The final regular issued card poll will start Monday and will be followed by playoff, WS, all star and other miscellaneous card poll. Thanks everyone that’s participated so far.

If you went to 1971, I would have picked this one, an all time favorite of mine:

BEAUTIFUL card! I'm sure that will make it in one of these polls this year for Brooksie cards. |
I have always liked the 67 set, ever since I saw the Mantle as a brand new collector (and that was not a great Mantle photo either). However, I am not sure that I love the image of Brooks on that card. To me it is a boring spring training type batting pose. If this was a dime a dozen regular 67 star card and not one of the harder to get and highest priced high numbers, do you suppose it would be as well loved? I mean the 69 is the same image, just cropped tighter and that is nothing special.
I voted for the 64, perhaps personally for me because it got later exposure on the 75 T MVP subset and 82 K-Mart MVP sets. It is just a cool card in my mind and the card design is not bad either. I think for that period, 1965 is my favorite card design, but that huge kind of goofy face shot is unappealing to me. |
Curt I agree that being a high number probably played a part in the popularity of the 67. I do like the format and fuller photo of the 67 over the 69.
Just a reminder that the poll closes tomorrow. Thanks again for all of the responses and votes. |
