Mile High Catalog

Arrived yesterday. Auction closed last week. Ouch. That’s called a real waste of money and paper.

Sounds like an inside job with the encouragement and help of the wives or significant others..... No catalog, less influence to bid and buy! :D

Mile High

I posted this in the other Mile High thread a few days ago.

Since I am a retired postal worker, this is really embarrassing. I received my Mile High catalog today. Yes, the one for the auction that ended on January 23rd. I contacted MH and asked them to complain to their local Postmaster.

It is a beautiful catalog, with some great items. I didn't see any Louisiana items, so I wouldn't have bid anyway, but the USPS really did a poor job on this one. I wonder how many other catalogs were delayed?

Rick - you obviously know more about this stuff than I do as a retired USPS worker, but if people all around the country aren’t getting these in time, do you think it’s more likely their contractor dropped the ball here and not the postal service?

BeanTown 02-03-2020 08:45 PM

I was thinking the samething. Maybe some went out as media mail (1-3 week delievery). The other thought was mule train being used.

Yes, that is very possible. I would like to be able to find out the date that they were mailed. They were mailed by Bound Printed Matter, which is a cheaper rate than Priority or Parcel Post, but it is quite a bit slower than Priority.

Catalogs cannot be mailed by Media Mail because they contain current advertising.

The Postal Service actually has one route that uses mules. If I remember correctly, it is used for deliveries in the Grand Canyon area.

They also use boats during the summer to deliver mail to the mansions along Lake Geneva, WI. They hire students for the summer to jump off of the boat, run up the dock, deliver the mail, and then run back to the boat. The people who receive this service are rich people, such as the Wrigley's.

I got mine yesterday. I had seen the auction online and just figured that they had purged their mailing list of the small fish like me. I haven't placed a bid in quite awhile.
